My son is considering attending Clemson in the fall and we have been trying to plan a Europe trip. Because of his siblings' schedules we have to go in the beginning of August. I went to the websites of all the schools he is seriously considering to get the start dates. Clemson starts the earliest (Aug 18th) and we will not be back home until the Aug. 16th. When do the kids move in and if it is earlier than the 16th will he miss out on much? Thanks!

Freshman move-in to Clemson this upcoming year on August 14th. There is a problem with moving in later. If you move-in on the 18th, you will most likely miss out on the One Clemson (diversity workshop) and New Student Convocation, which are part of a “class” at Clemson that was made to make sure that students actually go to these required activities (it’s a pass/fail class that ends up on your transcript, you pass if you go to all the required activities and complete the summer reading essay and diversity powerpoint required of you). Now, I doubt that any employer is going to look at a student and look down at them because of a F grade in Library 100 but that’s up to you to decide. If you’re really worried, you might be able to get an exception or something. Talk to Dr. Jeffrey Appling (who coordinated Library 100 last year) at japplin@clemson.edu if you have any further questions.

Clemson starts really early (all my friends didn’t start till the last week of August/first week of September) but at least we finish last week of April!

collegeconsumer, I applied to be a welcome leader and they gave a preliminary schedule of what’s going on during the first few days of school

Thank you very much. We are going to visit on March 8th and 9th so we will see what he thinks. Do you happen to know if there is a program for overnight visits for prospective studenhts?

I don’t think Clemson has an official overnight visit program for prospective students yet (I’ve heard of an organization trying to organize something like that but I’m not sure if it’s official)
