When do people get to class?

I don't know if it's this way at every school, but I've noticed that at my university, you can get to class 20-25 minutes early and still not be the first one there. It seems very routine in my classes for people to arrive half an hour early for every class. I've never once been the first person in a class, and we've been here for more than three weeks now.

Is it like this at every school?

Yeah its like that at my school too. Not sure why, most of the time the classroom is being used until 15-10 minutes before my class anyways so I don’t see the point in getting their early other than if you have to always sit in one area every time during lecture. Most people do it to socialize or study.

At my school it tends to be pretty unpopulated until the 15 minute mark. Then a few more start streaming in. Sometimes I’m the first, other times I’m not.

Some people come in maybe 15 minutes early before class starts. My professor today for my 8 AM chem lecture actually started class before I got in (I wasn’at late) and the majority of my classmates were already in their seats, notebooks out, and listening.

I’ll get to class like 20-25 minutes early if I know I need an outlet, as a lot of the older lecture halls have limited outlets. Other than that, the majority of people get there around 10 minutes beforehand, unless they have a close class in which case they’ll come when that class is over and just do homework and stuff before class.

I’ve seen people hanging with friends outside a class for a full hour. Otherwise people start arriving 10-15 minutes beforehand.

I think the class size to room size ratio can often play a big role though. If there are lots of extra seats people are more willing to filter in in the last 5 minutes. I even showed up at 8:59 to a class with 12 students and the only person there was the professor.

Lol, here freshmen get there really early and then everyone else kinda shuffles in five minutes beforehand.

A lot of people get to class a half hour earlier and get themselves settled, get good seats, catch up with friends, study for other classes, etc.

I prefer to get there between the 10-15 minute mark. I don’t like being the first, but I like having enough time to get a good seat and get everything ready.

My univ. has most all of the classrooms booked up all day long so it’s pointless to arrive more than 10 minutes early (15 on Tu and Th). I show up 2-3 minutes early. Biking + having an apartment 5 minutes away makes it so I can be pretty accurate in my timings.

I am one of those students who will get to class an hour early and do other work, if the room is not occupied. Few environments are as distraction-free as an empty classroom.

Most people shuffle in at the last minute. More than a few get there 10-15 minutes early. For me it really depends on that particular day lol but on average I try to get there like 15 minutes early.

Did your semester just start on Tuesday? If so expect that to stop soon. In the beginning of the semester you’ll see people show up early because they want to meet people in the class. After a couple of weeks (unless it’s like an 8 or 9 am class) you’re probably not going to see many people there more than 10 minutes early.

I try to get everywhere on time but I seem to always be a couple minutes late without fail.

I’m horrible at time management so punctuality was never my strong suit (workin’ on it!). I’m definitely one of those 5-minutes-before/shuffling in right when class starts type of students.

At my school the classes are always booked until 10 minutes before. I am normally waiting outside when the class leaves, along with a lot of students. People have their preferred spot. After a week of taking the same spot your seat is “marked” and it’s okay to come in at the last minute.

At my old CC, the first person would usually show up 20 minutes in advance. If the room is already in use, a small crowd usually gathers by the time the class ends.

I try to get to class 5 to 10 minutes early if I can, but if I’m coming from my house or something, I’m likely to walk in right as class starts. The only time I would be 20 minutes early or something would be if I had another class in the same building that had let out before – for example, last semester, I had a class that ended at 1:00 in this one building, and then I had another class at 1:30 in that same building. So I’d always just stay put for that.

In the couple of large lecture classes I’m in this semester, I can usually get to the class around 10 minutes early and still be able to get a first row seat.

@Vladenschlutte I’ve been here for a month now. I expected it to go away after the first week… and it hasn’t.

I typically leave 5 minutes before class starts
