When do PSAT scores come out?

My son took it last year as a freshman and took it this year as a sophomore. I just e-mailed his counselor and was told that they would hand out the scores by the end of next week. We are on the block schedule and this is a state testing week so I know counselors are busy. The thing that gets me is I just need the code and I let them know that. I even sent them the e-mail that my son received today from the College Board saying that his score was ready and that he just needed the code from this years test to access his information. In the time it took the counselor to respond to my e-mail he could have also just looked through the stack and sent me the code.

I really don’t like how scores are distributed. In our district parents pay for the students to take the test. The way I see it the scores are our property so the fact that I have to wait on the counselors to decide they are ready to give out the information does not sit well with me.
At least his score doesn’t count this year. Next year I am sure I will be worse when it actually is his junior year.

That code is a catch 22 since you need the results to put the code in.

Most public school counselors are busy catering to college application requests and don’t want to work on PSAT distribution until after holidays when they should be done with schools with January 1st deadlines.

The State semi-finalist cutoffs are not announced until September 2014 for 2015 graduates. However, last year numbers listed were all time highs for many States and hopefully they don’t go up further.

Question to posters:

When the “My SAT study plan” on the PSAT Quickstart page says that my child “missed” X# questions – does that “missed” X# refer to questions answered incorrectly, questions omitted, or both?

I ask because I am trying to determine whether some glitch accidentally reflects this year’s (2013) number of missed PSAT questions, or whether it still refers to last year’s (2012) number of missed questions.

Currently, the X# “missed” questions reflected on “My SAT study plan” corresponds exactly to the number my child answered incorrectly on last year’s 2012 PSAT exam (also X#), but not to the number he answered incorrectly and omitted (X# + Y#).

This question has kept me anxious since the scores were released (but not to us yet), so I would be very grateful for someone’s help. Thank you.

I checked my son’s #of missed Qs in CollegeBoard website, and it matches exactly with the number of wrongs he did last year when he was a sophomore

yes, and that is the #of mistakes my son has from last year.

yeah, us too. our paper score report says 13 missed on the 2012 test. and on the my sat study plan online it shows 13 as well. So I think for most of us, the number reported online as missed is not a glitch showing the 2013 scores, but rather just the same number from 2012.

We’re in TX and our guidance counselor is really slow and never gives scores or access codes until Feb. Last school year, I believe we were the last school in the whole city to get our paper score reports.

OK, I double & triple checked the missed #of Qs, and it matches with #of Wrong Answers + number of omitted ones!! (As collegefind mentioned)

Referring to caspiancat’s post in the 2nd page: http://professionals.collegeboard.co…sqt-scores.pdf.

This website says that the 99+ percentile is 225-240. That is really high. The times Texas has had a cutoff of 215-216, the 99+ percentile was 222/223-240. Last year’s 99+ percentile was 224-240. Does that mean that this year, the Texas cutoff will be 219? Or am I just freaking out about previous year’s results and random trends?

Thank you for the responses Elsa Maria, but I remain as confused (and worried) as ever.

Under the PSAT QuickStart, the My SAT Study Plan bubble states an X# of “missed” questions – which is equal to the number of questions my child answered INCORRECTLY (but not omitted) on last year’s exam (2012).

Is it true, as you say, that “missed” questions wording on the My SAT Study Plan bubble refers to both the # questions answered incorrectly + # questions omitted?

In that case, sadly, because the X# in the My SAT Study Plan Bubble does not correlate with the number of # questions answered incorrectly + # questions omitted in last year’s exam (2012) – then that X# “missed” must refer (through some glitch) to the # questions answered incorrectly and # questions missed in this year’s exam (2013).

Can everyone follow my confusion and confusing recap. If so, please help me understand.

"Does that mean that this year, the Texas cutoff will be 219? Or am I just freaking out about previous year’s results and random trends? "

Texas was 219, 217/216 and 219 last three years. 219 has been the highest so far and it would not be a surprise if it stays that way for 2015.

illinoisan, It is hard to believe that he didn’t improve anything from last year!! Anyways, we have to wait until we get it. Good luck!

Regarding the glitch situation on the cb website…when adding the # of missed ?'s, omit the 2 sub sections on the math test that have an * next to them. I think the # will then match your 2012 test.

I have assumed the summary number on the front page of quickstart refers to the total number missed and omitted . . . last year, the actual score report shows that my daughter missed 11 questions, and the number on the quickstart page showed that same number. Today, the number on the quickstart page indicates my daughter missed 7 questions, but when I click on the link that provides section by section analysis of her 2012 test, it still shows she missed 11 questions. Is it right to think that means she missed 7 questions on the 2013 test? If so, how can I figure out what her score might be without knowing the number of incorrect answers in each section? I see nothing on last year’s analysis that indicated number of questions omitted - which might mean she didn’t omit any, or I don’t know where to look.

As need2learn mentioned, we have to take those *s into consideration!!

I wish I had checked it before the PSAT to make sure which is which. Now we have to wait until it comes!!

I went back and checked for my older daughter who is in college now. It shows the year she took PSAT as Jr, Score Report and the study plan for SAT. Comparing with it, for my son, it is still Year 2012 in the center. So I would like to believe that the number is from last year!!

Well, factoring out the math* questions certainly accounted for the Y# difference, bringing the magic X# number back to one consistent with, and equal to, last year’s (2012) PSAT test results. I certainly hope that you all are correct that the X# missed pertains to last year’s exam, but I will probably continue to fret until we receive the results in a week or two.

Some people have their scores already

So the difference for us- is when we click on the number missed which does not match the number missed last year (2012) or the number missed minus the * ones or the number missed + omitted (there were 0 omitted)- it does not take me to the 2012 results- If I click on the circle with the number missed in it, it immediatley prompts me to enter the access code for 2013. If it is the old number from 2012 people have told me that it takes them to their missed questions from 2012- Every time I click on this number it goes to the access prompt. I am hoping its not what I think but none of the other options add up to the correct number.

Oaky, I have called the college board several times with this question now, and they have repeatedly said that until the middle of the spiral reads 2013, the missed questions information refers to the 2012 exam.
