When do students receive their scores of Oct 2009 PSAT?

I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread. Sorry :(

Will the scores for the Oct '09 PSAT's come out in app 2 months? I think that's about how long it took after my D took the test as a sophomore last Oct. Once students see their scores, can't they pretty much determine whether or not they're likely to be a NMSF? I'm confused because I know juniors who took the test last Oct. found out recently about their NMSF status, yet it's now a year later.

Why the big delay between receipt of the score results and determination of the NMSF?

Thanks!

OK…

The schools get the PSAT scores in Dec. They pass them out in Dec or Jan. If your child score is well over what your state’s cutoff was during the previous year (by at least 6 points), then you can be pretty sure that your child will be named a NMSF the following Sept of their senior year. Another pretty sure bet that your child made NMSF is if he scored over 224. ( I don’t think any state has had a cutoff higher than that in any recent year. )

Even though the scores are known during the winter of junior year, NMC doesn’t firmly decide each state’s cutoff until much later, and then formally announces the semi-finalists in Sept.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think any state has ever seen an increase greater than 6 points in one year.

Certainly, because of computers and such, NMC could identify NMSF by February or earlier. However, it works better to announce the NMSF in the fall of senior year - calendar wise. At that point, transcripts will include junior year grades, SATs can be taken senior year, etc.

Thank you so much! That clarifies everything. I hope our state doesn’t increase at all–it’s already high enough!!!
