When do UC's look at GPA?

I will have a GPA of 3.48~3.50 by the end of my Summer semester at SMC. I am a anthropology major and I want to apply to UCLA, UCSD, and UCBerkely. By the end of the Spring semester prior to transfer (2013) I will have a GPA of around 3.68~3.7 optimally. I'm worried because I know I can get a higher GPA by the end of Spring 2013 compared to that during end of Summer 2012. I know applications are due in the fall before fall semester ends... Would they consider that the GPA may get higher or will my acceptance be based entirely on the GPA I send over during the application process?

The GPA they will look at will have everything in it except the winter/ spring semester or quarters of your last year before you transfer. So, in your case they will look at everything you’ve done so far, this spring semester, any summer classes, and next fall semester grades. You apply in the fall, but send in your fall grades in Jan when they start reading the transfer apps.

Thank you so much! I was worrying because I thought they would only look at my gpa up to summer. Thanks again!

If you wanna reach a certain GPA by Fall, figure out how many classes you’ll need to take by then (assuming you’re aiming for A’s).

I took 6 classes last semester and got A’s, and it brought me up to a solid 3.80. I didn’t take 6 classes for that reason, but you could if you want to.
