When do we hear ? Scholarships and Capstone Scholars at USC

Congratulation to AL on your son’s scholarship. My DS is also in the engineering dept, but Mechanical Engineering. He applied for a departmental scholarship for the fall, but he will be a sohpomore then. Does anyone know if current students find out about awards later than entering freshman? We haven’t heard anything about any departmental awards yet.

He did receive that same email that i saw posted above about “changes to awards etc” in VIP and I too did not notice anything different there.

AL
I just noticed your S hasn’t accepted yet.Its interesting the dep’t awarded him a scholarship already…I was under the impression they “saved” them for students who had accepted/made the enrollment deposit.i would take it as a sign they really want him!

Does USC superscore SAT scores for the purposes of determining scholarship eligibility/awards? Thanks for any info you can provide!

AL

I found that surprising as well since they normally do save them for those who have accepted rather than trying to use them as additional enticement. If I remember correctly wasn’t there a post from the new Dean on here recently? Maybe they realize they are competing with Bama and don’t want to lose him…???

I agree with cathymee…they must REALLY want him…which is great for him (and you of course ;))

^ Thanks for the vote of confidence! I think he’s pretty special, but then I’m biased.
Can’t imagine they are trying to get him (vs. Bama) personally, if so would have done better than McKissick. I do think that, being an artist, he brings a unique skill set to computer science that you might not usually see.

All packed and ready to go - this is exciting! Will report in after the visit :)

be careful…S says theres lots and lots of pollen flying around the campus!! if your allergic take your meds with you!

Afrin and claritin - check!

S said the pollen is THICK in Columbia…can’t even see what color the parked cars are. His car was covered up with pollen and he has a covered garage space at his apt!!! Have to use the windshield wipers to clear the stuff off to drive.

Husband said he heard on the news that “standard” pollen count of some type is 1500, and it’s around 9000 now…worst scientists have seen since they’ve been keeping records. Something to do with the cold winter and suddenly hot weather.

It sounds like what we already experienced in the Houston area – still pollen around but no longer so thick that the windshield wipers are needed before leaving the house in the morning! We are also going this weekend and looking forward to it. S applied for a dept. scholarship/sport management but we haven’t heard anything yet. The deadline for apps. was just April 2 though.

greenville - ‘extremely high’ pollen count is considered 120. I haven’t seen official numbers for Columbia, but I know in Atlanta (and because of the distance these numbers should be similar) the count was 7,500+ two days ago.

valmom - look for notification about those in mid-late April.

Thanks greenville! That makes me feel somewhat hopeful.

Well it rained here in Columbia last night so a lot of the pollen was washed away (and it was a lot!!)
