I applied for financial aid through the FAFSA website on 3/1/11, and I am starting to get admission decisions from a few schools now. After I get accepted, how long until I hear back from the school concerning financial aid offers?

Probably in the next few weeks, if not sooner.

I suspect you are getting on line reports about the admissions. Soon a large envelope with financial details should arrive.

I am sorry to tell you that a FAFSA submitted on 3/1 is a bit late in the queue. Colleges usually work through them in the order in which they are received – many families submit information in early January for that reason. The official FAFSA deadline for a school might be something like April 15, so they will get to you eventually but it may be a week or two later than the neighbor who got her in earlier.

If you haven’t heard by the close to the decision date (May 1 for many schools) then you can email the college and inquire as to your status – but it’s early to do that just yet.

Good luck. I hope it all unfolds well.

So does that mean schools figure a FA package for every applicant that applies for FA and doesn’t wait to see who is actually admitted first?

No ezilrib, as far as I know, schools only prepare a financial aid package for students that are admitted to the school. Doesn’t matter who applies for FA. To prepare one for those not admitted would be wasted effort.

My FAFSA was done on 1/2 and I’m still sending additional information to colleges. So I don’t know if the 1/2 date is helpful or not. But I have not received aid information from any of my colleges.

If schools haven’t contacted me for more information is that a sign I am not being admitted?

No ezilrib, it doesn’t mean that. Usually you don’t have to send more information. You just have to wait until they make and send their decision. Hard, I know. Ready2011 has a special circumstance. (Hang in there ready).
