S and I are planning to attend the March accepted students weekend, if that date works out with the coach for his sport.
Area hotels may fill up? I was not able to get a reservation at my first choice, but did get a refundable one at another, similar hotel. If a Woo alum had not advised me, I would have left the reservation until a later date.
BTW–how gray is Ohio in winter?

Funny you should ask that!!! H and I ended up using the Wooster Inn on campus last year since it was our anniversary and D was staying with a student, it didn’t look full at all so that is an option. Now a storm blew in with every type of precipitation imaginable, from rain to sleet to ice and snow, so we had to leave early - quite the possibility that time of year but it WON’T happen this year (crosses fingers!!!)

Rachacha, thanks for the info on the accepted students weekend. I had noticed it on the website, but it would be nice to know if that will also be for College Scholars. Of course, I could be totally jumping the gun here, thinking that S may win an award.

I’m not sure he will want to do an overnight after his last experience, but at this point Wooster is definitely in his top 3 schools, and I hope he will want to visit again.

S just got his acceptance to Wooster today. Nice note and a nice scholarship. How are the music experiences as Wooster? S is a classical/jazz bassist, into hand-drumming and, like a lot of teen boys, plays guitar. He is fairly quiet. Anyone know how comfortable to environment is for quiet kids? Is there academic support for writing?
Thanks!

hey! for all that have seen my thread which is gone now, i didn’t get in.

I’m so sorry, jezda. I looked at your stats and EC’s, and they must have been nuts not to admit you. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

Really, jezda? the only reason is that you’re international. You would have been in with a lot of merit if you were domestic. I guess I was wrong… I thought Wooster tended to be relatively fair (in comparison to other small LACs) to Internationals. Wow, I guess not. Were you at least deferred? To me a flat out rejection seems completely ludicrous for somebody with your stats, even as an international… I’m so sorry about that Good luck with your other schools!

I’m thinking it was a clerical mistake. You have the goods, jezda. You should have been accepted with a good FA package. If Wooster was one of your top choices, you should contact your admissions officer by email and ask what gives.

I agree -I would check as well, might be something like an incomplete application due to something out of your control. I am sure things will work out for you with the stats you have - GOOD LUCK!

this is what they told me:

I know there is no way to lessen your disappointment with this decision, but I
do want you to understand the context in which the decision was made. This
year our international applicants needed significantly more financial aid in
order to attend Wooster than in previous years. Consequently, we were unable to
offer admission to everyone who applied, many of whom might otherwise have been
successful at Wooster.

saaaad.

btw - if you don’t get admitted, would your online profile say so?

woohoooooo College Scholar!!! :D

Congratulations, HonorsCentaur! My daughter is a graduating College Scholar. I like the fact that you have to work for this one–write an extra essay. It’s not handed over on a silver platter. Good for you!

just wondering, does anyone know how many people get College Scholar each year, and how many apply? Also what the stats for these are and how many matriculate.

I’m not sure. Originally, I thought everyone who bothered to write the essay probably got one. But then we found out that one of my daughter’s friends was turned down for it. She’s graduating with a better-than 4.0 GPA and is one of the brightest people I’ve ever met. So, Wooster’s not always 100% on target when it comes to College Scholar Awards.

As far as I could tell, nothing really special happened with College Scholars. It’s just a lovely thing to put on your resume for grad school. … In reference to your question on matriculation–my daughter and two of her friends are College Scholars. They’re both graduating this May. Anyone motivated enough to write that extra essay during the stressful college application process is probably motivated enough to stay the course and endure to the end, even through Wooster’s intimidating, but extremely rewarding Independent Study project. :)

I just now got my EA decision - an acceptance! With a Dean’s Scholarship!

I can’t enroll until I get news about need-based aid, but I still want to meet everyone!

congrats MissPick! I have been following your search and am so glad you got into Wooster!

Me, too! I hope you get sufficient need-based aid. Wooster is wonderful. :)
