When do you like to move back into the dorms?

This will be my first year living in dorms, and transfer students can move in 4 days before classes start. Honestly I don't think I'll need 4 days to move in and get settled. It's not that big of a campus (or town), and my classes are just in 2 buildings so I don't think it will take that much time for me to get used to the school. I figured I'd probably get bored just sitting around for 4 days.

I was wondering if it was the norm for students to move in this early, or if you like to wait a couple of days, closer to the start of classes?

At my school, new students move in 2 days before classes start, and returning students move in the day before classes start with the exception of RAs, athletes, nursing students, and orientation committee members who are helping with the freshman move in who are there anywhere from 2 weeks before to 3 days before.

This will also be my first year in dorms as a transfer. We have to move in a week before classes start but we’re going to have orientation for like 4 days.

Are they planning activities for the transfer students during those four days? Will you be able to meet the other transfer students then? I guess if I were in this situation, my main concern would be feeling lonely during those four days, especially if there isn’t much to explore in your college town. I think moving in two days earlier would be a good compromise (assuming that those four days aren’t filled with orientation activities). That way, you get to settle in and have time to explore your surroundings, but you won’t have as much time to get bored and lonely.

Personally, I much prefer moving in 2-3 days early rather than the day before classes start. The move-in process is much smoother without having to fight for parking. Plus, I can get my textbooks without having to worry about long lines in the bookstore. If other friends are on campus, I get a chance to hang out with them. If not, I don’t mind doing stuff on my own, since I’m a fairly independent person. At my school, though, you need special permission in order to move in early. For the past two years, I’ve been involved in activities that allowed me to move in early. I’m hoping to do the same this year.

Our move-in is about 3 days before classes start for upperclassmen, and 5 for freshmen, since their orientation is integrated with their first week in the dorms. I’m doing Move Crew, where upperclassmen move in the first-years, so I get to be in my dorm the Friday before classes start (a Wednesday). I like it because a lot of my friends are doing the same so we’ll have a large chunk of time to just hang out without the pressure of classes, and we can explore Nashville in a way we didn’t really get a chance to this past year.

i’m actually hoppeing to move in early, just to get settled in. It takes me a while beforei get used to things…

I’m moving back August 12th, 3 days early because I’m a “welcome leader” for the 1st week of school. yay for hanging out with the freshman! :)

If those four days are filled with orientation and activities I’d move in early the first day. I guess it depends on what everyone else is doing too. If everyone is going to move in as soon as possible you’ll most likely miss out a little bit on meeting people if you come in a couple days after. Idk.

As far as I know all orientation is in the summer, and transfers aren’t even required to go.

My plan has been to maybe move in two days before. That way I can move in, get my books, know where my classes are, and get used to campus a little without feeling like I have too much time on hand. Now that I think about it, freshmen are probably going to be the main ones moving in 4 days before. I don’t anyone confusing me with freshmen and having to sit by with all the freshmen activities going on around. That would be kind of awkward.

Move in here starts a week before classes start. New students move in a day or two early. I pay extra to move in before even the new students. I don’t like it to be complete mayhem when I am moving in-- my family creates enough chaos by themselves.

New students move in 4 days before, current students 2. Or anytime thereafter.

Honestly, I wish I had more than 2 days. It’s like move in, unpack, then bam! Classes.

Move in early! This year I am showing up 2 weeks early because i have cultural aide training. But honestly, I made a lot of my friends at school the first week before we had classes. If you have the opportunity to show up early, you might as well spend it getting accomodated, getting to know campus/the surrounding town, and maybe attending a few events/saying hello to the other kids that have moved in early. There’s nothing wrong with making friends with freshmen!

I don’t live on campus, so I head back to school on the first day of classes. Commuting from home FTW!

I am also entering college as a freshmen, I’ll be moving in on Aug 19th, regular move in day is the 21st and classes start on the 23rd.
