My D has been waiting, we are in West Coast, anyone else heard>

I found out my dorm assignment through my OASIS account this AM. I'm at Lincoln Ctr so I don't know about RH.

i still havent recieved any information, but i guess it just takes time (hope im not the only one). I am so excited going to Fordham this fall, it seems really friendly school!

We're in California, and my S received his dorm assignment on 8/11/07: third choice and in an unrequested triple. Residential Office said requests were done by post date. Also, 85% of freshmen are in triples! I think the snail mail somewhat affects us out here.

my D found out on Monday, finally, in Cal...she is in her 3rd choice as well, but in a double, she is growing to like her dorm, and she has spoken to her roommate, so far so good

RLSMom

As an alumnus, donor, and now parent, I don't know where you got the 85% triple rate. It's flat out wrong. I have not received anything from the University for my daughter who is starting in September stating an 85% triple rate. She's in Queen's Court and has a double like most of her Courtmates.

Check out the answer in Topic 403 from a former Freshman.

I would place more stock in that.

Let's keep the facts straight.

I still havent got the letter. I know I got an email from them which gives information about my roommates. They said I have to confirm it...but how??
Should I just print and sign that letter/email??? I am really confused, most have already recieved the letters, and it said i needed to confirm it within 7 days time...Can anyone advise me on that?

We just found out that my D has been "tripled". When we called to get more information we were told that 80% of the freshmen are being tripled!!

My daughter's best friend is going to Fordham this fall, but she in the lucky 20% who don't have to triple.

Its not 80%. They had record acceptances of their offers of admission, and that is because Fordham's popularity is really growing. Its a special place.

We were told today by the Office of residential Life that 80% of incoming freshman were being tripled!

Some of the above post are a year old (2007) so might be confusing.

Well.....how can I say this......they are being "polite" because often people who are tripled are upset about it at first and threaten to withdraw. They dont want to lose people. And to make it seem more "equitable".

But its not 80%. Last year it was more like 25% and that dropped to about 20% I guess in January.

You should know that some kids REQUEST triples due to friendships...and some do it sophomore year to be with friends. Its not all bad.

Now I am no authority on ResLife or Fordham. I dont work there. But this same "rumor" goes round and round every year. There WAS record enrollment this year...a much higher retention rate than they anticipated, as its reputation grows as a really good school, classic college campus and lifestyle in New York, and a reasonable alternative to NYU and Columbia, with NCAA Div I Sports.

Welcome to Fordham! Its a great school. See you in about two weeks.

But this same "rumor" goes round and round every year.

This (80%) was told to me by Res Life in a phone conversation yesterday. I fail to see how that is "polite". So you are implying that I am spreading a "rumor" or that Res Life is lying, or we both are.

Not cool.

Oh come on.....they get HUNDREDS of calls a day with the SAME question. I am not implying anything. I am saying its not 80 percent in triples....though it depends on where you or your kid is living next year. Hughes is all quads, but that is the design of the building. North and South have more triples than Tierney and Queens. They are just being polite and not getting into it. It is what it is, and they had more freshmen accept than anticipated.

Dorm life is ....well, dorm life. Kids stay with friends down the hall, upstairs etc....or are gone sometimes for the weekend or on trips for athletics or speech teams or debate teams....

Its what a LOT of colleges deal with. For example, WashU St. Louis a few years back was WAAAAY over enrolled....took NOBODY off the waitlist as a result (waitlist was 900) and had to put kids in hotels.

If you are in a triple, its not all bad. Great friendships are made, people adjust, and you get a discount off the room and board rate. People sometimes leave in January (mostly partying types).

They cant answer every "upset" person who calls and says, "hey...I got a triple...whats up with that?"

Everything will be okay. Fordham has good dorms. But yes, the same "rumor" or "story" goes around every year about how many are in triples. Its never as bad as the story goes.

I know kids who spent LOTS of time in their friends room....triples...because they were all such good friends.....its about friendships and getting along and adjusting.

In a PERFECT world, everyone would have a single and a private bath.

I know SOUTHERN schools with NO air conditioning in the dorms. NONE. You wanna talk hot and sweaty and uncomfortable? And these are TOP TIER SCHOOLS. LIKE top 20.

Nocousin:

"They cant answer every "upset" person who calls and says, "hey...I got a triple...whats up with that?"
- Uhmm, yes they can. That's their job - to answer our questions. After all we are their customers. You know, paying the tuition that pays the salary.

You need to put the pom poms down and stop cheerleading. We chose Fordham and therefore are very positive about it. But the issue here is housing and the unfortunate mismatch of supply and demand.

"I am not implying anything. I am saying its not 80 percent in triples...."
And you know this how?

I called yesterday and they told me that a little under 85% of freshman have triples

just kidding

there is no way it's 80%...

I was in a triple my freshmen yr at the LC campus. I survived. Plus I got a nice refund second semester for being tripled. My mom had the wisdom to not make a big deal about it. I had enough on my plate just dealing with the stress of going off to college. The triple worked out better than planned...at any given time there were eight to ten of us hanging out. College=fun - parent drama=lame.

We are glad you are at Fordham Deezmom. Yes, we are customers and we are paying the bills. Yes, there are "issues" at Fordham...as there are at EVERY college around the country. I can fill your inbox with stories I have heard from other schools. If you got tripled against your first wishes, I am sorry. But it will all work out. Your kid will be fine and have a great experience.

I know this from experience.

As for being a cheerleader, I am unabashadly supportive of Fordham and have signed on completely to Fr. McShane's program of making Fordham the number one Catholic school in the nation by 2016. Whether he gets there or not I dont know, but I do know he is trying very hard. Part of that mission is to get the word out about Fordham. Its working. Fordham is drawing students from all over the country and they have increasingly higher stats. My D is an agent of positive change at Fordham, working to make positive change where she can in the various special interests she has at school. I strongly encourage your kid to do the same thing.

Fordham is building new dorms as we speak, which you may have seen at the Rose Hill campus in April. The fact there are more triples this year is a testament to the success of Fordham in reaching its new goals.....its not a failure on their part. Historical retention rates have been shattered. So its really a mark of success, not failure.

You will get a significant discount in the room/board by being tripled.

Welcome to Fordham and hope to see you in a few weeks!

My son got Queen's Court for his dorm, this was his first choice. He will be in Bishops Hall. He has been tripled with a boy from Texas and another from Guam, my son is from Colorado. We think this will be a fun mix. I know that Fordham provides a bunk bed for the triples, does anyone know what is done about closet space? The closets in Bishops look pretty small in the blue print diagram found on the schools website. BTW He did not request to be tripled.
