I'm receiving money from Regents this year, but my registration fees still show a full $4.1k. Anyone know when the money gets accounted for?

School aid is generally disbursed within 1 week of the beginning of classes. I have no personal experience with Regents, though I imagine this will fall in the same pattern.

If your EFC provides that you don’t owe the school money, don’t worry about the fees. If your EFC is high enough to necessitate covering anything in excess of room, board, supplies, travel, etc. (that is, if your total contribution is equal to MORE than the combined cost of everything except fees), pay the appropriate amount.

In either case, you can wait a couple weeks to see how the chips fall with no penalty*.

*From experience, late fees aren’t charged until 30 days after the due date. You should have until 9/15 to clear any fees.

I’m crossing my fingers that finaid for Berkeley students will go smoothly in the upcoming weeks.

undecided: I have an EFC of zero, and if you apply everything I got, I have to take out a $2000 in loans. If I just pay $2000 by August 15, will I be okay?

Thanks for all your help.

I’m not sure I understand. With 0 EFC, you should be covered with aid from the school. If the $2000 loan you’re talking about is from the school, you need do nothing but accept that loan and sign the MPN. If it’s an outside loan, the only reason you’d need to pay is if the aid from the school doesn’t cover your fees.

I am guessing that, in your case, everything is all ready to go ahead as normal. If the only thing not covered by grants/scholarships for you is a $2000 loan, you will probably be getting a REFUND, nevermind having to pay anything.

Berkeley didn’t cover 100% of my need despite my EFC. They gave me enough grant/scholarship money for about 90% of my CARS bill. And they gave me work study to pay for other costs (books, extra food, etc). The loan is from the school, though, so I guess I don’t have to worry about anything right now.

Wait until the loan processes and then see what’s left. School loans are processed and disbursed through the school, so your loan will get processed against your current charges and, if anything’s left, refunded as appropriate.

So, yep. Give it a couple weeks.
