UC Berkeley (Cal) Registration Fee

How do I pay my registration fee? It is due August 15th. I have the financial aid to cover the fee, but I don't know how to access it/ how transfer of aid works. The aid already shows on my CARS account. Do I need to do anything? I have signed up for an EFT account, but I don't want to accidentally bill myself for $15,000. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I only know how UCSC’s works, but it should be similar:

If you have a “pending financial aid” amount, then that will automatically be applied to any outstanding bills in your account. Generally, this will not disperse until a few days before the quarter (semester in your case at UCB) starts which will be after the payment deadline. However, you should not receive a late fee. If you do, and it was through no fault of your own, you can contest it and it should get waived.

If you will have a balance even after the financial aid is paid out, then you will need to pay that amount (what is remaining after financial aid is subtracted from the total) before the deadline.

Greetings! My son will be a freshman this year at Cal. OP, did you check your quick statement found on BearFacts? The amount shown there will be the amount due. If nothing is shown under minimum payment due now, you need not pay anything. If there is a balance due on the quick statement and you have financial aid that will cover it all, you need to do nothing. Does this help?

At both my kids’ schools financial aid was automatically applied to their charges. They (the kids) did not have to do anything.

^^^ Right. The OP would only have to do something if financial aid did not cover the entire cost of attendance…

Thanks a lot. Bearfacts provides this information:
Total
Assessed:…$6,230.75
Awards:…$6,130.75
Payment:…$100.00
Waived:…$0.00
Balance:…$0.00

HOWEVER, this is the CARS Quick Statement:
Minimum Amount Due Now:…$0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee:…$0.00
Account Balance:…$6,600.75

So, am I good to go? Thank you.

Yes, you are good to go as far as being paid up for the August 15th due date. With regards to the balance of $6600.75, do you have additional financial aid covering this? If not, you will need to pay that in monthly payments or all at once (your choice). If you have full financial aid covering that, do nothing as it will fund eventually and take care of the balance. Good luck at Cal. My son is so excited!

Yes, I have financial aid to cover the remaining balances. My main concern was how to access the financial aid. (I am still not sure about how to access the aid to buy books, etc. if anyone is interested in solving that puzzle.) Thanks everyone.

Once all of your aid funds (which should be before the start of the semester), you will see a credit balance on the quick statement. That is the amount of your refund. If you have your account set up with EFT, the money will show up in your account within a few days. You can then buy books.

Soo happy to have found this thread since i am sufficiently confused. In my case, I don’t get financial aid but have applied to subsidized and unsubsidized loans(along with my parent’s parent loan plus). I’ve accepted the loan amounts offered and completed the master promissory note but there has been no money in my account and my quick statement reads as follows:
Minimum Amount Due Now: $2,380.75
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee:$2,380.75
Account Balance: $7,060.75

Any one know how this process with regards to loans works? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You need to pay the minimum due by the 15th, which was yesterday. When you go to MyFinAid and click on Award Payment Status, what does it say?

My account summary on CARS also just changed. It reads:
Minimum Amount Due Now:…$1,458.75
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee:…$1,458.75
Account Balance:…$6,600.75

Does this mean my financial aid has not crossed over? If so, how do I access the financial aid? I’ve tried calling the FinAid office, but they are too busy to answer the phone lines.

has anyone’s parent plus loans funded through cal yet???

i checked under myfinaid-required documents and it said this:

Received but not yet reviewed
Parent PLUS Application

I had the same “Required Documents” notification on MyFinAid two days ago. They eventually reviewed the Parent PLUS Loan application. (Now it says “Required Document (0).”) However, my quick statement still has not changed. It still says that my minimum amount due is $1,149.75. So I’m presuming and hoping that it takes a bit more time for the financial aid office to update our CARS statements and such.

One thing I noticed on my Bear Facts is that I am considered a “Registered” student. (You can check your registration status under CARS –> Refund Summary or Personal –> Personal Profile. After doing some research, I found that you are only considered a “Registered” student if your registration fees have been paid, either in full or, if on the Deferred Payment Plan, at least the first installment. (Source: [Frequently Asked Questions - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/FAQS.html)).

Since I am not using the Deferred Payment Plan, I assuming that all my fees have been paid through financial aid but it has not yet been updated on BearFacts.

I hope this sheds some light on the Parent PLUS Loan issue.
