<p>So school officially opens on September 24th for the UC quarter system, but classes don't start until the 27th? </p>
<p>Are the per-instructional activities or new student orientation necessary to attend? (UCSB)</p>
<p>I’m pretty sure the pre-stuff before school isn’t required, but it would be nice to get acclimated to the campus and maybe meet some new people before class starts.</p>
<p>But yeah, instruction officially starts on the 27th.</p>
