Was just wondering if and when W&M will come out with admissions statistics for the class of 2025.
All data is usually made available around early to mid-August. If William & Mary has the same yield rate as last year and accepts the same total number, the acceptance rate will be around 35% overall (given the number of apps). I would anticipate that figure being a bit lower as apps are up and yield is likely to be higher this year IMO. I could see it being more like 32-34% this year. If yield is unexpectedly better (and more spots were filled with ED and those who deferred from last year), the acceptance rate could be “potentially” 28-31%. I don’t anticipate it being that low TBH. We will see. Average test scores should be quite similar (for those who submitted them).
Interested to hear how they’re doing with their numbers. The website says they were anticipating an entering class of just under 1,600 students. Looks like that number was 1525 for the class of 2024 (with 31 students part of the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme).
Also wondering how the waitlist is going. Losing lots of kids to other waitlists? Pulling kids in from their own waitlist? Just curious how close they’re going to get to that anticipated 1,600 number! Mid-August is so long to wait, lol.
Well, it looks like the acceptance rate is slightly higher than anticipated (37%) - due in part to W&M’s desire to take a larger incoming class (1,686). This fits into W&M’s long-term plan to expand the student body size and (presumably) become less fiscally bound to unsatisfactory state funding. The admission stats certainly remain impressive (see submitted standardized test score percentiles), but the yield rate remains a bit concerning IMO. It’s difficult to understand why it took 6,466 acceptances in order to retain 1,686 students. A 26% yield rate can be improved upon. For example, UVA’s yield rate is around 38% this cycle. If the College could manage a mere 28% yield (2 percentage points better), the admission rate would have been 34%. I do appreciate W&M’s shift towards creating a more diverse student body. The long-term plan may ultimately render increasingly competitive incoming classes. Yield will continue to play a major role. Given the quality of W&M as compared with schools of similar pedigree, the acceptance rate really should be in the high 20%'s. Again, yield and student body growth goals will hamper that. Additionally, acceptance rate isn’t as influential with rankings like U.S. News as it used to be - so priorities such as pell grant allocation are changing strategies amongst the higher ranked institutions.
Thank you for sharing. Have been eagerly awaiting CDL #'s for the W&M 2021 freshman class. Recognizing schools are test optional - which can inflate SAT/ACT scores - could you share the middle 50% range of accepted students for Fall 2021?
Sure, no problem. The middle 50% ACT range for the incoming class is 31-34 and the middle 50% SAT range is 1360-1520.
