Does anyone know?

I think replies are mailed on April 1st.

There is, however, for VERY qualified students ( I don't know how many ) they notorious "likely letter," which is sent out... I think in late February/Early March.

It's just a cute little thing Williams does for REALLY REALLY GOOD applicants. But for the rest of us, replies are mailed in Early April.

ah man, that sucks : (

Actually, many letters will be sent out by the end of this month, and in several cycles throughout March

^ really? Are these just the "likely" letters, or actual Regular Decision results? I thought Williams just sent out a big bulk of them in early April.

And what determines when my letter is sent out? I got my stuff in in early December.

yayy!! that's what I thought. : )

Kev,
What you call "likely letters" are, in fact, actual acceptance letters called Early Write. From the Admission Office site: http://www.williams.edu/admission/apply_procedures.php

Early Write Program
In Februrary and March, a small number of Regular Admission candidates with superior qualifications receive early notification of acceptance. No special application is required and no response is expected of Early Write candidates until May 1.

As stated on the same page, all other RD decision letters are mailed out the first week of April.

Ohhhh I see...

So I have to have "superior qualifications" to hear from Williams before April...

If you don't get an Early Write, don't panic. We know that the college almost never sends them to an applicant attending a school that has at least several (we don't know exactly what the low number is) other applicants. Beyond that, the letters are probably very "hook" dependent, with a high percentage going to applicants having a characteristic that the college particularly wants/needs (e.g., the storied oboe player). Since none of us knows what the college especially needs this year and how many of those (and with what other stats/assets) are in the pool this year, we can't begin to guess who is going to get a 2007 Early Write.

Waiting is really difficult. Good luck.
