when I apply for college they will see a b+ and I will be sad

Hi everyone

I have a B+ in english right now... my teacher doesn't like me even though I try really hard

I got a '95th percentile' in writing on some standardized test for school ranking, where most of the kids with As in her class got in the 80s range

she just doens't like me. I can't switch out now, it's way too late obviously

what should I do? It's english 'advanced' but it's not weighted.

I really want to go to a good UC like berkely or UCLA and I even wanted to try to go to stanford but with this B+ I'm not sure if that's possible.

I have a B+ in chem too but that's a weighted class so I'm not angry.

what should I do about this? she gave me a 12/20 on my essay even though it was good imo... she just dislikes me. I got 98 in my english last year

btw this is sophomore year

i wish Ucs accepted freshman grades I got 4.00 but for soph I will get 3.88 unweighted at this rate, 3.95 weighted thanks to chem

Stop. You aren’t getting a B+ because your English teacher doesn’t like you. Start being a man (or woman) and take responsibility. Writing essays is about objective as you can get, contrary to popular belief.

Also they won’t see a B+ only a B. I believe colleges don’t care about +'s and -'s.

^
Essay grading is objective? Get real. Essays are one of the most subjective areas.

To the OP, you have to push hard to get that A-. A B+ is close to an A-. Go ask about some extra credit. Ace your final.

Think of how much sweeter it will be when that dumb teacher has to grudgingly give you an A.

And in the event that you don’t get it, one B won’t kill you.

We don’t have a final and there is only one more essay left in the semester

she won’t give me an A even if she liked me
she told the class that in her 20 years of teaching she’s only given one 20/20 and very few 19/20s

I got a D- like I said on my latest essay (2nd of the semester), when I brought it to a couple other teachers they said it was at least B material, if not A

and I got a C on the first essay even though I thought it was definitely B+/A- material based on how I performed on essays lats year, I didn’t bring it to any teachers cuz I thought I would do better next time.

i’m afraid for the next essay… if I get another abysmal grade like that it could drop even more…

she purposely lost my quote sheet for one of my assignments which i neatly placed on her desk like she asked so I lost 5points, I had to go to my counseler and miraculously she ‘found it’.

Wrong post is wrong.

how come last year I got 100% and 90% on all my essays but this year I only get 65% and 75% on them

explain that

the class is not even harder, because 9th and 10th graders take the same english classes for the rotations

You might have an issue at HYPS, but UCs are filled with kids with B pluses.

Zach, why aren’t you in Honors English to begin with? Transfer out next semester into a different English class. My suggestion for this semester is to complain every chance you get. Ask why you got such a low grade, and bring this to your counselor. Complacent people will get robbed. Don’t let this happen to you.

Hmom5, people get into HYPSM with Bs all the time.

As long as you have about a 3.9 unweighted GPA, you’re in good shape for HYPSM. This equates to an allowance of roughly… 3-4 Bs during one’s high school career. You’ve picked up two already, so you have to be real careful now.

ok

Even if it is weighted, you still only want 3-4 Bs?

thx for the info good to know

I will talk to my counsler about it

the class I am in is called ‘honors english’ but it is not weighted, they call it “English Honors Advanced” for some reason which is not weighted, there is no ‘honors’ 10th grade enlgish, the 11th grade one is tho

same with my math, it’s called algebra 2/trig honors but it’s not weighted

the only weighted class I could have taken is chem which is what I did take so ya

Geez… For someone who is so confident in his writing abilities your posts sure do make my eyes bleed…

Sorry, I don’t type with correct grammar on online forums.

Better? I hope you find my real writing abilities less eye-bleed inducing.

I think everyone has a teacher like that sometime. English teachers seem to be especially unpredictable with their grading. Some of them actually do see the name on the paper and (intentionally or not) that affects the score it receives.

However, it’s important to remember that 2 B’s aren’t going to kill your chances.

*Grading essays is entirely subjective and anyone who claims otherwise is wrong. The SAT essay is an absolutely horrible measure of good writing. Every English teacher I have spoken to agrees.

Oh come on…even a 3.8 GPA is fine, right?

A b plus omg that’s simply unacceptable.
