I am a junior right now. My honors english teacher is the strictest teacher at my school. He’s going to give me a B this semester even though I have a super high B. He always marks me down for stupid things and is never satisfied with my essays. I was an ESL student last year, but I got two As in english. Anyway, Do you think that if I take the AP English exam this year and get 4 or 5 colleges will acknowledge that I deserved more than a B? Do UCs and UTs ask for your scores on the AP exam before admitting you?
Its one B, calm down.
As already stated, one B will not hurt your applications, even to the top schools. A 4 or 5 will certainly show that you understood the material to an extent that is far above average nationally. Most schools ask you to self-report your AP scores when you apply (the UC’s do and I’m sure UT would as well).
If you are taking the AP exam and score high, that’s more of an insight to your knowledge on the subject. I’m pretty sure colleges realize grades are subjective but the one thing about standardized tests are they level the playing field
one b… lol
At my school, Honors/AP English are some of the harder classes starting in 11th grade. As mentioned above, one B won’t make that big a difference (if any). They consider how rigorous your schedule is! As long as you don’t have like 10 Bs your UW shouldn’t be hurt badly.
I’d say always take the exam if there’s an opportunity to, especially because you can cancel the score afterwards if you think you did poorly and it sounds like you feel confident in the subject. That’s frustrating about your teacher! I completely understand, I’m a person who would freak about a B too. Try not too though; SO few people get completely straight A’s, try to remember one B won’t really impact you
A “super high” B is still a B. You probably deserve the grade you’re getting and that’s fine, especially if English isn’t your native language. Most colleges don’t care much about AP exam scores, and a 4 on the exam would correlate to a B in the class anyway.
