When is in-Dorm rush, specifically BC

Hey all,

I got temped in BC and am pretty sure I will want to stay there (I will check others out in Rex obviously but during CPW it stood out as the best fit for me). My question is, when is in-dorm rush typically for BC and others, aka when do we get our final room assignments? I don't live that far from Cambridge so my parents are thinking that they will come up with my stuff only once I get my final room so that moving is easier. Is that a viable plan/is it an acceptable thing to do?

Thanks!

Of course. That’s probably the best of all possible options for people whose parents live close enough that it’s feasible.

MacGregor in-house rush was always the night of the day the final housing lottery results came out, then final room assignments were available the next morning. I think BC is likely to be similar.

Thanks again eternal source of all MIT knowledge, aka Mollie

The Housing Lottery website says that all in-house rushes take place at 7PM on September 2nd.

Hmm that is inconvenient as my parents can only come on the 4th not the 3rd. Is it a problem to move in on the 4th as opposed to the 3rd?

You’ll have to move all the stuff you have with you from your temp room to your new one on moving day (the 3rd, I guess), but you don’t need your parents for that. There will be tons of upperclassmen around to help you, and the IFC even has vans to help people who are moving across campus. If your parents want to come on the 4th and bring more of your stuff that you don’t have for orientation, that’s completely fine.

You’ll have to move into your new room on the 3rd (because, more than likely, someone will need to get into your room then). They can bring more stuff later, of course.

Maybe I wasn’t clear, so let me outline what my plan is just to confirm that its considered a-okay.

I would go up for orientation on August 28th with just a week or so worth of clothing, nothing else. I would go through Rex and orientation as normal in the temp room, but with nothing in it except my week’s stuff. Come Sep 2nd, I get my permanent room assignment and I take my 1 suitcase to it. Sep 4th, my parents come up with all my actual stuff to drop it off directly at my permanent room.

I don’t want to appear lazy, I am perfectly willing to move my stuff from a temp room if thats what is needed. This is actually somewhat more to pacify my mother as she is being all “I NEED TO HELP YOU MOVE IN TO YOUR PERMANENT ROOM!!!” (you know mothers), although not having to lug stuff isn’t a bad thing overall <g></g>

Would this be considered an acceptable plan?

You can bring all of your extra stuff whenever you want – your plan sounds great.

Hey, what room in BC are you temped in? I’m in 313A
You’re so lucky, though…I’m flying in from Wyoming with my 2 suitcases for the week, but we can’t ship my stuff until after the final room assignment, so it won’t get there for ~another week after moving :(

I am in 433C. Ya its convenient having parents only about 5.5 hrs away who are willing to make the trip :D

Yeah, that’s a perfect plan. Trust me, most people wish they could do that.

This is sooo weird, listening to frosh getting ready to come to campus knowing I won’t be going back this time. Also, when I read the question about the date of in-house rush I was immensely relieved to realize that for the first time in 2 years, I didn’t know the date off the top of my head. =)
