When is the best time for freshmen to move into dormitories?

Fall -09 semester starts on August, 24.

When is the best time for freshmen to move into dormitories? (In case if they attended the Summer Welcome program.)

About a week before classes start. If you are in a FIG, you can move in a day earlier than the rest of the freshmen, which is a big advantage because it is less crowded at the dorm and on campus. Your FIG activities start the day after you move in, and then there's a whole week of Fall Welcome activities for all freshmen before classes start (they do a lot of welcoming at Mizzou!). If you go through sorority rush, you also move in early. Check with the j-school, because Walter Williams Scholars might have a special schedule. Here is the information from fall 2008: http://reslife.missouri.edu/movintomizzou/ You won't find out much from Residential Life until early summer, which is hard for OOS families.

We made our base in St. Louis, not Columbia. We flew there a couple of days early to shop for dorm supplies and visit with family, drove to Columbia early on the morning of move-in day, and then left that evening to return to St. Louis and fly home the next day. St. Louis and Kansas City have more extensive shopping options, and the stores are less crowded than in Columbia. Both are an easy 1.5 to 2 hours on I-70.

On move in day. It's when the dorms open. You should get more information as you get closer.
