Hello, I'm planning on applying to UPenn (specifically to Wharton), and I was wondering if you could put down awards won from middle school. I won a gold key from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in Visual Arts when I was in 8th grade, and I would like to include that in my list of awards. Is this allowed?

It is not advisable to include middle school achievements. Not sure what the official policy is, but I would definitely try to avoid and focus only on high school stuff.

In general, I agree that middle school awards would not be included. However, if the honor is for something you are interested in persuing, or if it is something that you have continued to excel in, or if it was a prestigious award, then include it. You will use the years not your grade (2010 not 8th grade), so it will not stick out.

My daughter participated in a problem solving program for 6th grade to 12th grade, so she included all the years and awards in her applications, as an example.

However, if it says to only include HS activities, you would not include it.

Thanks for all the responses. When I get more into the college application process, I will make sure to look out to see whether or not they specify wanting awards strictly won during high school.
