When must uniforms be worn?

I'm curious.. Whenever graduates of my high school who have gone on to the Naval Academy (or any other Acad.) come back to visit the school, they are in uniform. I don't know if there is a specific uniform they are usually wearing or not. I wouldn't think this is required, or is it? Or maybe just for plebes?

I certainly don't blame them for wearing uniform if it is not required. Who wouldn't want to show off that snazzy and estimable outfit =]

So could those knowledgeable just discuss the uniforms a bit? How many are there? Are there requirements for them while on leave? etc..

Thanks

Ha ha ha - don't worry you'll find out very soon....
Sometimes during certain important days I remember changing into about 6 different uniforms. PE, mess hall, formations, parades, formal occassions - there all different. No requirement to wear them when home. Your friends were just trying to impress others.

^^^^^
The academy has been sending some midshipmen to their former high schools to provide information about USNA to interested students. Midshipmen would be required to wear their uniforms at these types of events.

Plebes and Youngsters are "supposed" to wear their uniforms while in transit to and from the academy. Makes going through security at Airports are real pain.

A funny story, my H (AD) was the only one of our family of 5 to be pulled aside and get the whole regiment when we flew to Italy. I kept laughing...yep he's the terrorist...come on I think the short hair and Military ID should have given a free pass...nope!

That reminds me when I went to Hawaii when I was 12. They stopped me at every check point. I was 12!

You don't have to wear uniforms on leave, but I'll admit that I went to my school last year (when I was a plebe) in uniform twice just to impress everyone, but now it seems as though there's no point of going back because all of my friends who were there have graduated and many of my former teachers have left. Besides, you'll find many youngsters who despise wearing the uniform because 2/c and 1/c don't have to wear uniforms on liberty, yet 3/c are not plebes so we're always wondering where the class distinction thing sets in.

If you are in good standing, you can submit a chit to leave early on Thanksgiving Leave in order to go to a different location each one of the early days your home to talk to prospective candidates. It's a pretty sweet deal- you get to go home early in exchange for a couple of hours talking about the Academy. Your liberty uniform would be worn to the places you talk--usually high schools.

That does sound like a pretty good deal!

OPINFO i shard to get. Impossible as a plebe and it's usually 2/C, but we had a lot of people do it in my company and it's pretty awesome because you get 6 extra days of leave.

OPINFO is hard for a 3/c to get also - And then it depends on the schools you submitt to visit - Admissions has to approve thoses schools. Told our 3/c they were not schools that needed recruiting so he was turned down.

OPINFO is not exactly the easiest thing to qualify for.

Midshipmen requesting OPINFO must meet these requirements:

2.75 Cumulative Quality Point Rating
2.75 Current Semester Quality Point Rating
Satisfactory grades in Aptitude and Conduct
No failing grades in PE (includes the PRT)
No D's or F's for the Current semester

You can obtain OPINFO without meeting these requirements from your company officer or from the Academic Dean. I have a 2.53 CQPR and was granted OPINFO due to interest and the fact that my state does not have much interest to begin with (RI). I'm a 3/c midshipman.

as a 2/c who went home to Maine on OPINFO this year (Scarborough), I can tell you that it is a sweet deal. I actually only visited one high school (my alma mater). How much you do is pretty much dependent on the blue and gold officers in your region. And OPINFO is hard to get....in that you really have to hassle the LT in charge (i made my co officer call him directly) and after weeks of being "pending" i was "approved" in about 45 minutes. being able to go home for more than a week instead of like 4 days really makes the ticket home worth it.
