No matter what decision I get from my dream schools in April, I want to at least graduate from there if I can't go there for the full four years. Question is: If I am planning to transfer colleges, for the first one or two years, should I go to a community college or 4-year university? I heard that when transferring, universities want you to come from selective universities but I also heard that they like if the student gets his AA first. So where do I go?

Go to a community college, you will save money and the schools don’t care if you went to a 2 year or a 4 year.

It depends on what your transfer target schools are. State universities tend to have pre-made articulation agreements with same-state community colleges, and may have admission policies more friendly to community college applicants.

Private universities may be all over the place in terms of how they view other four year schools and community colleges. They are also less likely to have pre-made articulation agreements, so you may not know ahead of time what to take to prepare for your major, or what courses will transfer.

If you are advanced enough to want to take upper division courses as a freshman or sophomore, note that these are generally not available at community colleges.

And depending on what your dream schools are you may have less chance of getting into one as a transfer that before.
