When Receiving Admissions Decisions...

If you get a big envelope in the mail, does that always mean you are admitted?

If you get a small eveope (letter-sized) in the mail, does that always mean you are denied or waitlisted?

anyone know?

The answer to your first question is yes, usually.

The answer to your second is no. And these days, most people find out online, either on a website or by e-mail.

it varies, but generally, i would say yes, BIG envelopes are good. Why else would a certain business name themselves thebigenvelope.com :)

a small letter isnt always bad
some schools send just a simple admissions letter and a big packet a week later

Big envelopes are usually good, but small envelopes can be good, too. You really won't know until you open it. Plus, most schools post admissions decisions online these days anyway - takes the fun out of it, though, IMO. :)

I guess here's a random question... do colleges usually post/email decisions on the exact "admissions decision mail date" or do they usually get up a few days later?

^ All the Ivies post decisions online on an exact date (before they mail them).

A lot of schools (ie Northwestern, Stanford, JHU, etc) say you'll get your decision around the first week of April, but they're usually online in the last week or so of March.

Really?..... You're going to know the decision literally seconds later...what does the letter size matter?

Oh, nifty, I was hoping to get decisions by my birthday (late march). Thanks concretejungle.

Jeydomz: What do you mean? You have to wait a bit over a month to get your decision.

^ He means (I think) you will know whether you are accepted or not when you actually open the envelope and read the letter - so why bother trying to see what size the envelope is :)

Accepted: Usually 7" by 9.6"

Deny: 5" by 5" ..you're a square
