When Reusing UC essays for the Common App...

...would it work to use the essay from this UC prompt:

Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

For this common app prompt?

Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

And if so, what changes do you think I would have to make?

Most people I've talked to have said the second UC prompt (Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?) would be a better fit. However, I don't really like the essay I wrote for that prompt. :/

That should be fine as long as it’s a good essay. The CA prompts are open-ended by design. Just make sure it isn’t obvious that you were targeting the essay at some other prompt/application.
