I am a non top ten percenter (17%) and I know Austin has rolling admissions but I'm in a dilemma about when to apply. Do they look at 1st semester senior grades for admissions? Should I wait until I'm substantially into my senior year to apply? Or should I just apply as early as possible?

I’m assuming that you are a junior in High School. My best response would be apply whenever you want and then send in your Transcript after the first semester of your senior year! Who knows, you may be in the top 10 percent then, and even if you aren’t, they will take a look at your grades and if your class rank has gone up! They love to see improvement! Hope that helps a little!

The application deadline is December 1, so admissions decisions are generally made on the 6th semester transcript (end of Junior year). Since UT has rolling admissions, it can only help to apply early. Since you already know that you won’t be an auto-admit, really focus on essays, major-related ECs, leadership, and letters of rec. Also, you may want to take both the SAT and the ACT -many people do much better on one than the other. UT only considers the highest single-sitting score.
