When should I ask for recommendation if EA

Hi, I am applying early admission to a university in NY. I guess I could ask my teachers for recommendations this week but I don't want to be too ahead of others. That said, I also don't want to be too late.
When would be the best time to ask? Thank you

I would say earlier is better than later. That way, your teachers have more time to put everything together, and write a better rec.

ASAP. rmbr that everything must be in by november 1.

Each school has a different deadline for Early Action. At some schools the deadline is Nov. 1, at some November 15, some December 15, a few even Jan. 1. Check what the deadline is for the school you are interested in. Then, allow six weeks for the teacher to write and send the recommendation. A month is do-able, but teachers prefer more not less time. And, a word of advice: it's better to ask teachers before everyone else gets to them. Some teachers get many requests to write recommendations so it is better to line up your teachers sooner, rather than later. Also, if you ask now and they can't do it for whatever reason or seem hesitant, you still have time to ask other teachers. I know that at some private prep schools, students are told to ask teachers no later than September 22 for EA and ED recommendations.

I agree with the above posters, ask ASAP. I'm applying early decision and my app is due Nov. 1, so I went in just last friday (Sep 9th) and asked two of my teachers. Surprisingly, one of the teachers I asked had already received 3 or 4 requests that DAY, so act quickly. And also be sure to get them the usual materials so they have to do as little administrative work as possible.
Good luck!
