When should I ask?

I asked two of my teachers to write me rec. letters.
I know that they didn't start yet because I didn't give them the common app material.

I was thinking about leaving everything till mid-November because I am still not sure which colleges I am applying to.

Should I give them the common app material now, even though I don't know which schools I want to apply to? And tell them to just photocopy everything as soon as i have my list?

Thanks guys!

P.S. My art teacher is writing an extra letter for me. Does she have to fill the Common App forms as well or does she just have to write a letter? I hope she could because I know that she will give a great rating..... Oh and is she supposed to put "Extra Rec. letter somewhere on the letter?

Despite what teachers say about giving stuff to them two weeks before, they're going to be incredibly busy near mid-December with finals, etc. None of them want to work on their winter breaks. I say give it to them now and ask that they save a copy of the rec just in case you add on more schools.

finalize your list asap. Then give the materials to your teacher. The longer you wait the more difficult it will be!
