So I am going to ask for my teacher rec's soon because I have about a month of school left. I hear some people talk about how you should have an adressed envelope to colleges for them so they can send it directly. But I was thinking I would just include them with my apps when I apply to colleges this summer. I don't think many people at my school do the whole self adressed envelope thing, but im not sure if it varies by teacher. I am not even sure everywhere that I want to apply, so what should I do? Don't I need to photocopy them if I send them to several colleges anyway?

If you need to send them to several colleges, your teachers would photocopy it, not you. Technically you're not supposed to read the letter (well, you can decide, but there's a place for you to sign if you choose to give up your right to access the letters)

Do you need to ask them now? Could you wait until the fall? I waited until late September/early October to ask my teachers for recommendations for a November app deadline.

I realize though that some high schools want their kids to ask before the summer, so if that's the case, I ask the teachers for the recommendation, but maybe have them hold on to it until the fall when you've narrowed down your list? Then when you know where to send them, give them the envelopes and they can just print everything off and seal it.

What I did was gave the envelopes to my teachers, and they sealed it and signed across the flap. I then included the sealed envelopes with the other documentation I had to send in one big envelope, just so everything got to the college in one package.
