I don’t have many general education classes left since I took a lot of ap and community college classes. In the first quarter of my freshman year, I was rotation nine and in the spring quarter, I was rotation 10. Since I get three priorities left, (I’m currently a freshman), should I use a priority on 8,11, and 12? I’ve heard people say to wait until when your in the upper division and there are fewer classes offered. However, I noticed even right now, classes are already being filled up and it isn’t even rotation one. What would be the probability of getting into a class if you are rotation 12 and don’t have many ges left?

I think you should use them when you definitely need to get into a class. For example, it’s possible to be 11th, or even 12th rotation, and still be able to grab 16 units. You might have to crash a bit, but it’s definitely possible. However, there are some classes that are very tightly capped. These are usually major specific, and not all majors have classes like this. But if there’s a class you absolutely NEED to take or it might delay your graduation, and you know that the class has a tight cap and tends to fill up fast, then it’s worth it to use a priority. I used a priority one quarter where I was 11th or 12th rotation. I was mostly just going to take GE’s (since I had already completed most of my major classes), but I figured I’d take a priority because otherwise I might have trouble getting classes. It turned out that I could have pretty easily gotten all my classes without using a priority. They might have been at less ideal times, but I still would have gotten in, possibly without even having to crash some.

Ok thanks. I guess as of now, it’s kind of hard for me to tell since I still have about three years left to decide. I mean, I had friends who used their priority right now and they still have a lot of GEs and other classes they can take. They saw that they were 12th rotation and used it right away.
