When should parents come

I'm going on the DOC trip. I'm wondering when my parents should come. Should they come on the 12th with me to the DOC trip or on the 16th for orientation. Also how long should they stay? Thanks.

If your parents are going to come, they should come on move in day. Have them keep in mind that before the day is over, they will be saying their goodbyes (around 3pm) as that evening, you will be attending your dorm meeting :)

So Sybbie:

Canoe Club reservations should be for the night before?

DOC trips are definitely the worst possible time to have parents come. Move-in day is good, but really, they shouldn't stay for long.

My daughter's doc trip ends on 14th, so we are arriving in Dartmouth 14th, so we can help her to buy dorm funishings, and other stuffs.

Dave,

If you can get the reservation, then definitely go the night before. If not, then Molly's has wonderful bread and a nice $2 margarita ;) No matter what, definitely have breakfast at Lous.

I will try to change my reservations to Monday for Canoe. Will most likely go to Dirt Cowboy for breakfast as this was the first place my son and I went to when we first looked at Dartmouth when he was a junior. Molly's is good as well. Staying at the Chieftian which has a very relaxed atmosphere. You can kayak right from the motel on the CT river.

Some other recommendations: Jesse's is also a good place to go for dinner. If you have a day or some time before things start, a (admittedly somewhat long) drive to Fat Bob's in Warren (if it's not closed for the fall) is amazing. For a more 'New England' experience in hotels, check out the Norwich Inn or the Alden Country Inn in Lyme.

Yeah the Norwich is nice. Could not get a reservation for move in day. Did get it reserved for First year family weekend though. Got the Canoe Club switched to Monday. Will be picking up the bed stuff at the Bed, Bath, and Beyond in Nashua. Lots of coordination. Son doing extreme hiking DOC trip so now I am not sure what he will do with full back pack. Maybe I will take it back when we leave. His roommate is from Boston area and his roommate's brother is a Junior so he should be able to get around and have plenty of stuff in the room.

Last year on freshman move-in weekend, according to our hotel (in White River Junction), there was not a vacant hotel room within 40 miles of Hanover. If you haven't made your reservations for this year better do so QUICK!
