When the stress is too much...

I've always over-stressed about college, but recently it's been getting worse (to the point of tears, sometimes). What do yall do to take your mind off of the apps/fearofrejection/everything else?

Think how fortunate I am that this is a cause of stress in my life...

Schedule some down time, don't do apps 24/7, go out and have some fun for a few hours. DD likes to watch Avatar.

Let the tears fall. Then go out with your friends. Find little reasons to celebrate. Just think: everyday is the last day you'll do something; the last high school football game, the last winter formal, the last time you'll watch a certain show as a high schooler, etc. Don't waste that day thinking about the future. Make the most of it.

I have different methods for dealing with different kinds of stress.

For example, when I'm stressing about college essays, I worry about them nonstop for a while. Usually, that produces a couple ideas. If some of them are good, I feel better and stress a little less. It works pretty well most of the time.

I'm no help with the fear of rejection, because I'm fatalistic about that. In that case, fatalism is actually pretty comforting. Sea lo que sea, you know? It also helps that I was rejected from a pretty well known magnet school (Thomas Jefferson, in Fairfax County). I'm doing great anyway. I'm happy anyway. I'm successful anyway. You may not get into your top choice, but that's life. Things don't always go the way you want them to, or the way you planned them.

My all purpose stress relief is driving down the GW parkway with the windows down and the music up. It's relaxing, I can think, and the drive along the river is aesthetically pleasing. I also have an arsenal of music that helps destress me that I've built up over the years. I've found movement is a stress reliever in general. I don't always go driving. Sometimes I go for a run, a walk, or a bike. It just depends on what I'm stressing about and what kind of time I have available to deal with it.

Google around for stress relief tips. It's just a matter of finding what works for you, like most things.

i feel your pain trust me...good luck with everything

Hang out with friends and avoid the topic of college altogether

I always just think about how my grade school years boil down to some knowledge I've received and these apps.
And then I continue.
lol

"Think how fortunate I am that this is a cause of stress in my life..."

Notthatgood4: You have no idea how true that is.....
