<p>When's the best time to buy a laptop? I'd kind of like to wait until after July 1, at which time all computers sold will include a free upgrade to windows 7 (or would it be available earlier anywhere?) A major factor is discounts. I know I don't want a mac, but I know that the apple store knocks off about 100 bucks from purchases when you enter a college name. Where else does that? Places like staples and office depot seem to have best deals for buying in the store, but they don't seem to offer special student deals.</p>

<p>Wait as long as you can. computers always get cheaper. July is good timing. That gives you time to get the computer and break it in before school. That’s also when they have Student specials. Check for your school’s recommended configuration. Sometimes they offer a deal on the recommended configuration. I also like the recommended configuration because it makes it easier for IT to help you if you have any problems getting it to work with the school’s network and software.</p>
<p>I already got mine. I say when the one you want goes on sale get it.</p>
