when to cancel scores?

i'm sure i didn't perform to my potential on my last sat. i'm thinking a 200 point decrease from my average. it was my first one (i'm a junior), but i've taken many timed tests from the blue book and did quite well on the psat. i know i can do better (unfortunately test day ended up during a time when i was sick, tired, and very busy..among other excuses).

should i cancel my score?

if it's your first time, i wouldn't go too nuts about it. The only reason you should cancel is if you omitted like half the test, or are sure you got a zero on your essay.

also be very, very careful about basing your score off pretests and psats. it gets you nowhere.

oh no, really? i thought blue book was a pretty good indicator. what would the difference be?

it's all right, but you have to take into account a lot of different things: environment, mindset, the questions you're given on the actual sats, and almost any other variable you can think of. and when it comes down to it, it's basically "counting your chickens before they hatch," and we all know how that can go awry. i would just worry about touting a 2250 and having to tell people that was actually not what you got at all.

If you think that you could have done a lot better, I'd cancel it.
True the fee for SAT is pricey, but what's that compared to your dream school?

And since you took it when you were sick, its better to just cancel.
200 points is a bigggg difference.

Don't cancel it. You're a junior, so bad scores don't matter with the march score report.

^Unless the colleges demand all your scores, then you are screwed.
You can cancel via mail or fax.
it must be in (not postmarked) by 11:59 AM the Wed after the test

I guess it really depends on when and where you are applying... have your heard of Score Choice? This new policy allows us to submit only the highest scores. Problem is that some stop schools will still ask for all scores. I say you CANCEL since it's your first test. Ppl tend to do worse on their first one (so did I) because of all the pressure and anxiety. Yo have until the following Wednesday to cancel it. Go to their site for more detailed info. Hope this helps!

Unless you had some kind of severe meltdown, don't cancel. See what you got and learn from the experience. The Blue book shows you exactly what the test contains, but managing the pressure of test day is a whole other matter.

So you didn't fulfill your highest expectations the first time around. Big deal. That's how it usually goes.
