When to Contact Counseling Department

My daughter, who will be attending a small LAC, currently sees a counselor for grief/ depression and anxiety issues. She is also currently on a low dose of lexapro.

I know she needs to connect with the counseling department, the question is when? Should she wait until she is on campus in the fall or contact them ahead of time to "get in the system?"

She also noted that since she was not yet 18, would I have to contact them?

Thoughts?

Any student can contact them. She would not need you to do so. She could contact them now, let them know she’s currently being treatd for grief/depression/anxiety, and ask how she can get into the system early. A phone call should do it.

Speaking from my previous experience having worked at a college counseling center while in grad school.

beekay- If you haven’t already done so at least call the counseling center to see what they offer. Some schools have resources for long term counseling whereas others allow a set number of visits and then refer those who need long term care to therapists off campus.
I have had two different experiences. One school did not provide long term therapy. In that case it was necessary to line up an off campus therapist. This was done ahead of time by the home therapist. In the other case the school had long term therapy available. A certain number of visits were free and then the visits after that at $90 dollars a session which was less then a private off campus therapist.
