When to contact schools for WL

I'm Wait listed for the schools I've received decisions so far...I've already said that I will accept placement for the waitlists. But when do I start contacting admissions to ask why I was WLed, etc, etc?

after march 15.

My suggestion is that you not ask an AO why you were wait listed until after the list is closed.
If you want to increase your chances, you should let them know about any new awards, athletic victories, strong grades, etc. Let them know why you want to attend the school and what you can bring to the community.
I would not want an AO to dwell on the reasons you were not accepted when there is still a chance of gaining acceptance. You want to emphasize the positive and not the negative. Does that make sense?
For very competitive schools, the truth is that there are far more qualified applicants than places.
I hope something opens up for you.

Thanks! I would perfer to call them, but would it be more convenient to email them?

I say e-mail, as that is less intrusive. Good luck! All hope is not yet lost.

you mot likley will not get contacted unless your a full blow applicant

something that can be added to your file would best. Email is OK, but then you are depending on someone printing the email. If they go to the wait list, your file will probably be reviewed again. There is still a place for snail mail. If you want to call as well, you can contact the person to whom you send the letter to confirm that it was received, and to quickly reiterate your continued interest.
