When to start studying for SAT Chemistry?

I'm trying to plan my time out and I realize how I am going to be studying for my regular SATs in October. Afterwards, I have my SAT Chemistry test in November. The problem though is that the highest level of Chemistry I've taken is regular Chemistry because my school doesn't have Honors or AP Chemistry. I looked through the Barron's book and realize that I basically have to relearn almost all of the material.

I took the real CB SAT Chemistry test and I think I had to guess or leave blank almost half of the questions because there were many topics on the test that I've never even seen before, I ended up with a 580. I am looking at the Barron's book and realize how there are around 300 pages of review and the fact that after the regular SATs I have about 30 days to review and that I can't actually use all 30 days since I still have school work. I already got through about 40/300 pages. I'm aiming for the 700s.

When should I start studying?
How many hours should I put per week to studying?
Would it be okay to study for the regular SATs and the Subject tests at the same time?

Wow, you’re in about the same boat as me. My school doesn’t even offer ANY advanced courses.
I took only regular Chemistry plus I had a horrible teacher. I am taking the SAT Chemistry along with two other subject tests in October.

Your performance on the practice tests is quite normal considering you only took regular chemistry. I would suggest you start studying now. There is nothing wrong with preparing for SAT I and the subject tests at the same time. You can’t possibly confuse anything. To be on the safe side, keep a review period of about two days before each test date.

Regarding a study plan, I would suggest you do this:

Up till November 3rd, study for SAT Chemistry just twice a week. You can prepare for about 2-4 hours on these days. I would advice you choose a day during the weekend, and a week day in which you don’t have an overwhelming workload. After November 3rd, study everyday between 1-3 hours. It is hard, but try.

Good Luck :)
