so far this summer, I've raised my SAT score from 1820(630CR/610M/580W) in June(real test) with no prep to 1990(620CR/680M/690W)as of yesterday. (As you can see, my CR sucks >___<)

Anyways, I was wondering when would be the right time to actually take the test. I'll be a rising Junior so college applications don't interfere. People tell me to wait until the end of my Junior year but I feel like I would not retain the skills and things of that nature that I am learning now, as I doubt I can continue studying like I am now throughout the school year.

Also, I fear that if I continue to study and I reach my target goal on my next real test (2200+), the college board will accuse me of cheating because of the tremendous score increase.

It can't be October either because I have the chem SAT then.

You really don’t have to wait until the end of Junior year; many people take the tests in January and March. If you continue to study and improve (you seem to be improving at a good pace, just keep taking practice tests and study Direct Hits for vocab), then I would recommend taking them in January and March.

Take some subject tests (if you need to) in May and June.

This won’t happen. Seriously. In fact, the higher your score, the smaller the chance that there is someone else in your testing room that had the same answers and, thus, the smaller the chance that you’ll be accused.

Take the test when you are ready. Don’t worry about retention. You won’t forget the skills you will have developed. The only thing you might forget is vocabulary or grammar rules that you didn’t understand very well. If you understand the concepts and don’t guess often on your practice tests then you’ll be good to go any time in the future. Take it when you are ready. Then take it again when you feel like you are even readier. And that’s it.

You might be told to take the SAT in the spring and then again in fall of your senior year. I say nay. Take them fall or December of your junior year, take time off to study a bit, then test again in spring or towards the end of your junior year. I took the SAT a second time in May during AP prep and it was do-able, although I wouldn’t recommend it. As a junior, I wouldn’t take more than twice since you will be busy with other things that year. In my school, SATII’s were taken May or June. Most of my classmates are taking the SAT once more in October as a last ditch effort. I am XD.

The reason why I say to not take it end of junior year and start of senior year is because if you’re not satisfied with your SAT the second time around, you’ll either have to submit your current scores if you’re applying ED without having a third try. If you’re not applying ED, you have until December latest, and with senioritis I would imagine it will be difficult studying for it. But that’s just me XD

The SAT, in my experience, does not test your knowledge as much as it tests how well you take the SAT. The SAT is full of patterns and with enough practice you’ll learn to recognize these patterns.

And don’t worry about being accused of cheating if your score increases, that only means you’ve done a good job prepping!
