Hi,
I’m currently a junior in hs and I was wondering if I should take the SAT this fall or in march. I personally haven’t hit my target score but I’m worried that i’ll run out of tries or forget the material if i take it later.
I would say if you feel you’ve studied enough take your first test by late fall (ie Nov/Dec). You mentioned you haven’t hit your target but perhaps if you study these next months you might feel more ready. Also run out of tries all varies with the school. My guidance counselors didn’t encourage taking the SAT more than 3 or 4 times if we were considered ivies/ selective schools, however this is only my personal experience and yours could vary so talk to your guidance counselor and see what they say. I would just like to recommend finishing your SAT/ACT tests junior year if possible. Senior year you’re going to be stressed filling out applications and many schools (for me at least) had/have deadlines as early as October, so you won’t have as much time as you think to really prepare and take these tests. However if you feel the need to take some more tests during Senior year by all means do so (that’s what I ended up doing). I’m just saying in hindsight I wish I had finished testing in Junior year so I would have one less thing to worry about senior year.
You’ll never run out of tries! You can take it as many times as you need or want! I would say take it whenever you feel prepared for the test. If you feel ready this fall, then I would go ahead and take it. And then, if you don’t like your score, take it again in the spring. However, if your resources are limited, only take it when you feel as ready as possible, which would probably then be in the spring so that you have extra time to study
