when to transfer from SUNY Stony Brook to else

I got accepted to alot of my second choice colleges (ex. Umass Amherst, SUNY Stony Brook, BU, NYU), but none of my first choices... I was thinking of NYU, but I did not want to add financial pressure to my parents and myself(since my sister is already in SVA in NY...which is very expensive), so I came to Stony Brook with some scholarship.

It's been a week at here; I feel comfortable here, and my roommates are great and met many great friends during the first week. Lectures were great except for Applied math(the teacher is an Indian staff...but I took AP Calc BC so it's an easy A). Therefore I don't have anything against Stony Brook upto now, but I just want a school that will open up my future opportunities(in terms of academic records of myself) more than Stony Brook.

I am currently taking classes focused on Computer Science major. I did unusually well in AP Comp Sci AB in high school, but my overall GPA was 3.00 with 2140(other two were 1950, 1780) on SAT, so I don't feel very satisfied with my high school records.

So when is a good time to transfer? and would my high school records affect my transfer admission a lot if I transfer after 1 or 2 years in Stony Brook?

Why do people want to transfer from stony brook? Wait till after the semester.

^ why wouldn’t they? there’s no reason to stay other than it being dirt cheap.

most good schools will want you to stay at least a year, but your HS record will be heavily weighed, so if you didn’t get in as a freshman, chances are you won’t get in as soph transfer because you only have one full semester of college work under your belt. if you’re aiming for top schools, i recommend sticking it out for 2 years. i transferred from sb after the fall of my soph year.
