Chance Me / Advice on Transferring!

I'll be attending SUNY Stony Brook next fall. My top choices of transfer are most likely:

Emory (TOP), Barnard, Wesleyan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Georgetown (considering others)

What do I have to do to get there?

3.5 G.P.A. at LEAST, and I know in some cases high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores are necessary. If anyone has any experience/knowledge on the matter, do you recommend applying AFTER freshman year in the summer for sophomore entry as opposed to after 1st semester?

My grades in high school were not mediocre but not at where I want them to be. I got a 3.6 GPA but C's in junior year math (which have climbed significantly to high 90's this semester) and my ACT composite, at its highest, was a 29.

Also, I applied to Barnard, Wesleyan and Gtown this year, and got rejected, so hopefully re-applying will demonstrate interest.

I can’t really say much about your chances because I don’t know much about the specifics of those colleges, but I think the question of WHEN to transfer really depends on what you want/are thinking. Personally, I decided to stay at my current school for my sophomore year because I’m paying very, very little to go to a pretty expensive private school.

But, going into a new college as a junior is probably a lot harder than a sophomore so that probably plays a large part. Like in your case, you probably won’t have to pay much for a SUNY school (I’m still waiting to hear from Stony Brook about my application for summer research there this summer) so I think it’d be a great idea to stay for your sophomore year because you’d have to pay a lot more at those other colleges.
