I heard UCs check if I really did all the Ecs. When they do that, why can they check my tutoring is real? I've been keeping the portfolio for all my tutoring kids, so can I provide it to the colleges? Or should I give them the numbers of their parents? I was wondering because there really is no way of checking other than calling their parents, but the Asian parents speak little English (no offense, I'm half Asian too) so they can't speak to the admission officers on the phone.. Even though the kids can. Should my students speak to them on the phone if they try to verify it?

It was “how” can they, not “why” can they… Sorry

the UCs verify 1 EC usually for about 1/3 of applicants (not everyone). Sending in a portfolio is fine. Students send in newspaper articles, recordings, letters from coaches, etc.

Don’t stress over this. If you really did the tutoring you’ll be able to come up with a mutually agreeable way of verifying it. They’re out to catch kids that are making stuff up, not to enforce arbitrary rules to flag as dishonest kids that are telling the truth.

This article from the LA Times about the process will probably make you feel better and understand they aren’t demons: <a href=“Applying to UC? Don't fib”>http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/18/local/me-ucfraud18

Don’t even worry about this until such time as you get a letter asking you to verify.
