When Will He Start to Pack?

Hgirl11 you are a perfect match for my S

Well, well.. Looks like all those years of rearranging everything in the fridge and the freezer to make stuff fit has paid off. DH and DS were both out, and I got the stuff in the car (and it was HEAVY!) There is one last soft sided HUGE duffle to go in, awaiting the last stuff to be packed, and our overnight bags. It is gonna be a rather cozy 8 hrs in the car, but it'll work. Who needs to see out of the back window anyway???

Let's see...etd of 7:30am tomorrow...dining room table and floor are covered with his stuff. He has just now engaged H to help pack the car. Priority items equal the old school stereo and a slew of records, yes...vinyl records! Will there be room for his sister who is driving out with him? Only time will tell. Truth be told it makes me a little sad. He's heading out for his senior year of college and I know what that means, having been there once before already. Best of luck to all taking their freshmen and those sending upperclassmen back for another year!

Jym, lol, I can get more in the car than the guys too. :)

We leave Sat. Nothing's been done. However most of it is still a pile in the basement.

jym -- safe travels.... have a beignet for me! Let the good times.... well, you know....

Just clothes left to pack here. All the boxes are packed up and in the car, with the exception of the laundry hamper full of "goodies" my sister gave me at graduation.

I'm flying with son... leaving tomorrow morning, 7 am, flying all day. Clear across the country for his freshman year. We are each checking one bag (all his stuff, of course), and he's carrying on a backpack and his computer. I have a wheelie carryon, and I'll also carry his special pillow. Basically everything is packed. It's not so hard when you can't take much. The most important thing leaving the house is our son! Waaaa.

Thanks, Ivoryk. Looking forward to the good food there!

And mathmom-- I think we have finally realized that males just don't have the packing gene, eh?
Good luck HGFM nad rent of 2. I guess they all eventually make it to college with some, most or all of their stuff.....

Let's just make sure that HGFM does not marry one of our boys.

Sorry, meant Hgirl11.

XD! Scared me...all I could think was "what did I do?!?!?!"

heheh.

Sorry HGFM. You can have one of mine since you know how to pack. Don't know if you would want one of them. Hgirl11's style of packing is more their speed.

XD!

I'm accepting resumes. :)

My son moved in on Tuesday. I think he loved unpacking his stuff in an empty room where he could start fresh! And it went so much faster than the packing. He took too many clothes, so we brought some home. Two bath puffs (my choice) were one too many, so we brought one of those home, too. (You know those bath puffs take up so much room in the drawer.) His decision not to buy plastic drawers for the closet was right on--stacking bins on the closet shelf worked better.

We might need a new thread about returning home to clean up after the packing!

my son finished packing last night at midnight...we fly out this morning.
boy the finality of packing and him holding our dog and saying how he'll miss her and won't be able to talk with her. I promised I'd hold her on my lap so she can chat with him on SKype....cried more than I thought last night

Boxes packed and going to be mailed today. My book-loving son took only 8 books, said he had been focused on that for awhile. Wow, "last" weekend is here and now that his friends have left, he's all about spending time with the family. Here we go...

We left at 2:30 pm Wed. I am the best loader and got everything in/on (all clothes go in trash bags, all soft goods in soft sided cartop carrier) the suv, we made it there, unloaded, went to a grocery store and came home. Yesterday I got some things he didn't and sent some stuff off with his friend's family, they were all packed by 9 pm the night before leaving and knew they had room for the extra stuff. H and S were upset with me when I took the extra 5 minutes to load the stuff needed/wanted but not essential the first day (after I waited forever for son to have stuff I could load)- I had 2/3 of the back seat left and, why not use it? My theory is to use the space now in case we need it for unthought of items later, same reason I took advantage of the space of friend. I will feel totally justified if we fill the suv for next week's planned trip with any furniture items like shelving units, and I can now clean house (which I should be doing instead of CC), no more piles of stuff in the way. Paid son's overdue library fine yesterday to clear it, returned other books due then. Have done his bedding, project move kid out will officially be done when house is clean (his room/bathroom he used for the first time since May).

Afer 2 in the afternoon. Dear sweet son has not materialized for the packing. I can tell he did stop by briefly because there are now a few piles of clean clothes on my family room floor. I was only gone for an hour and I missed him.
I am not amused.

We dropped off son yesterday with no hitches. Had him moved in before lunch and convocation. It looks like he will get on well with his roomie who produced an honest-to-goodness turntable and put on the White Album (from a case containing dozens of vintage vinyl LPs) just as son unpacked the Complete Beatles Scores book. They and both sets of parents were joining in on Ob-La-Di and Bungalow Bill while unpacking. Son had his guitar out in time for Blackbird.

Now we hope his older sister will drop by for a day or two between the end of the summer music camp where she is teaching high schoolers and the start of her senior year. After that, the nest will be officially empty for the first time in 21 years.

LOL mom60! Sooner or later he'll probably materialize again.

Well, greetings to all from the Big Easy. Made it with nary a drop of rain from TS Fay, which kindly stalled out somewhere over central Fl. DS rolled in last night sometime around midnight and did the last of his packing. So three guesses who this morning hadn't finished packing her overnight bag, ran around putting stuff away that had been put into the "reject" pile, put away the last of the dishes, called the alarm co. to tell them we'd be away, packed snacks/drinks for the drive, etc etc, and then got blamed for holding up the departure! Sheesh. Well, I did get thanked for reminding DS to take his cleats. As we checked in to the hotel, the mailman walked in with a HUGE box (looked like a dorm refrigerator box) with a big note on it that read: Hold at front desk for arrival 8/22". Never thought about having a box of college junk delivered to the hotel. Clever.....but must have cost a fortune to ship.
