When Will He Start to Pack?

A hint to the poster who mentioned boxes of clothing- if you travel by car plastic trash bags are much nicer, they can be fit in around the bulky items that leave those gaps you can't fit a box in.

I am definitely freaking out about packing. I've had some free time after work each day and I look forward to packing and getting all my stuff set to go, but then when it actually comes time to do it I can't. I really think it is just the idea that once I'm all packed it means I'm actually going. Like soon.

This thread is keeping me going every morning. I shall not hover I shall not hover I shall hover only a little bit.

My S just came back from a camping trip and informed me that he'd forgotten to pack underwear. Oh I feel sooooo confident he's going to remember everything he needs for school.

^I'm so glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that. :)

I've been checking this every morning as well...and sharing some of my favorite posts with my parents ^_^

Well... true confessions here-- one time I went to a weekend family event and forgot to pack said undergarments and a dress purse. Had to skip out on the luncheon early to hit the nearby store!

Just got back from C'ville. Move-in was a success. However, we have already started the list of things forgotten, the most important of which is probably the alarm clock. He also wants more hangers, a dish towel for the kitchen, and a black dress shirt for a waiter job he expects to get (were advertising where we took him to dinner). His roommates in his apartment are all buddies from high school and are going next week, so they will swing by here to pick up the next load. The first home football game is the end of this month, so that will be another opportunity.

Right now S1 is all by his lonesome, which I don't think has ever happened to him before. He said he might go to the library tonight to hang out because they have big screen TVs and he can watch the Olympics. They aren't paying for cable to be turned on until Sep. 1.

Update 2
Seems S has decided he can't live without his stainless steel french press coffee pot thing and it wouldn't fit in his already full backpack until he discovered if he crams some of his underwear (thankfully new) inside the thing then it will fit.
I can't imaging what the TSA folks will think when it gets scanned/searched.

TheAnalsyt,
S has quit using his alarm clock altogether and just sets the alarm on his cell phone. Might be a good alternative until the clock gets there.

If S doesn't want to pack, he comes by it naturally. H doesn't either. He was leaving for Europe on a business trip several days after I left on a trip. I packed underwear and toiletries but left the good clothes for him to pack at the last minute. He forgot to pack dress shirts! He arrived on a national holiday before a long weekend and had to wear the same shirt for 3 days.

After a reception yesterday for kids going off to the same college as S, where every girl has done her shopping, done her packing, etc etc, I've decided to buy one set of XL twin sheets, buy his two plane tickets for fall break and thanksgiving, and let it go....Can't worry any more! Or so I try.

I finally broke down and did the Linen's and Things shopping myself. I had a coupon yesterday that was expiring for 25% off the entire purchase. So at least he has a new mattress pad, memory foam pad plus clean sheets.
He did meet me at the mall and we got a few things. 2 pairs of jeans that he has needed for about 8 months but could never find the time to go shopping. Socks and white t shirts. He is the worst shopper. Still needs shoes but I don't know if he can handle another shopping outing. The Pac Sun store in the mall no longer carried shoes so I might have missed my one opportunity. His present shoes are falling apart and stink. Not that he notices.

S says he needs shoes, but has never wanted to go shopping, so I'm not sure how he expects me to help buy him any. Both my kids hate shopping, as does my husband. I'm not all that fond of shopping myself!
S manages to get himself packed as much as he needs to. I
originally bought my S two sets of sheets two summers ago before he began is freshman year, but so far haven't purchased any for D (she doesn't head for school until Jan). I'll ask her & S whether it makes more sense for one set of sheets or two.

4Trees

...so glad your S will have French pressed undies. Could this start a new fashion trend?

mom6-bummer on PacSun not carrying shoes. You might try somewhere like Tilly's. (My sister-in-law is a corporate buyer for Tilly's, I love that store ^_^)

Tilly's is a great store. Sadly we have lots of places to go buy 200 dollar jeans but few places to buy anything that we actually need.
I am at a lost as to where to look for shoes. He likes skake style shoes. Copelands used to be a good source at a good price but they closed. Big 5 and Sports authority don't carry much selection of that type of shoe. I guess the skateboard shop is the only place without driving 45 minutes each direction. And since I can't get him to commit to a store 10 minutes from home no way is he giving me 1.5 hours of drive time.

Still no packing here. I'm sipping tea on a big wrap around porch of a B&B while D naps upstairs. She and the new room mate have been texting about everything - especially what it will be like to share a bathroom with boys. We had facials and massages and sugar scrubs earlier. We have been strolling and talking about everything under the sun - and watching the Olympics at night. The weather is spectacular and the time is going by way too fast. Packing will be get done at some point this week.

One week to departure. Not a thing packed. Cannot see the floor of his room. Son is gone camping for the next six days. Have decided to shut the door and forget about it. Am getting sightly peeved, though. Will try to get over it later by opening a great bottle of wine and having dinner with the hubby while we watch the Olympics.

Bessie,

One week to departure. Not a thing packed

Are you at my house??? I just about give up. S tells me that the little market across from campus is the best place to buy everything that I want to get at Target. We had a major dicussion about mark up prices and how we would save money if we went to Target. Felt like I was talking to the wall. Freshmen year he was all into making sure we had everything and letting me add what I thought he might need. This year he is like " I have 3 other roomates, I am sure someone will bring that". I made the mistake of asking if they have discussed who is bringing what and other than a blender, shower curtain and TV, they have no plans. Should be an interesting moving day....

This thread is just tooooooooo funny!! I feel everyone's pain. Can't get my S to pack either. I have suitcases and stacks of stuff and lists everywhere. He is going to a much much colder climate so will have to get a lot of things when he gets there. (He hates to shop as much as he hates to pack so this should be interesting.) I packed what few sweaters he owns, but that is as far as we have gotten.
But thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. I feel in good company.
