That’s really great to know, thanks, 2boysnagirl. Now, here’s to hoping my D is accepted! W&M is her first choice…

2boysnagirl, that’s good to know. We know that at busy times of year (Commencement, move-in, the holidays, family weekend) it’s often good to book a hotel far in advance and that’s what we recommend just to alleviate stress but it’s good to know that accommodations can be made even if someone doesn’t plan too far in advance.

Teachandmom, good luck to your D. Decisions are forthcoming in the next few weeks. We’re close to setting an exact date.

Hi W&M, again, Would like more information on the mention above that the “bulk” of regular decision notifications will be emailed in a few weeks. Does that mean that some decisions will be sent snail mail or just that the remaining, which are the majority of the pool, will be emailed? Hope this isn’t confusing…and, as always, thank you!

We communicate all aplication decisions (save scholarship award winners) via email. About two weeks ago we mailed decisions to those students who had been awarded a merit scholarship (this was only about 7% of all applicants). The remaining decisions (93% of the applicants) will be emailed in the coming weeks (as soon as we have an exact date we’ll post it). We will send those who are waitlisted and deferred their letter as an email. Those who are admitted will receive a fun, off-the-cuff email letting them know that they will be receiving “good news” in the mail in the days to come. So everyone gets an email; those who are admitted will also get snail mail.

Expecting exact date!!! So anxious!!!

cliffordwu, unfortunately we do not have an exact date yet. The process is extremely complicated. We are trying to wrap up Committee deliberations this week. Once we do that we still have to pull all of the date, stuff all of the admit packs (which are mailed on the same day decisions are released or the next day), collate all the data and double check everything to make sure students are receiving the correct decisions via email. We want to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

We know students are incredibly anxious (and believe me we want to get you your decisions). They will go out next week and as soon as they do we’ll let everyone know!

Thank you for your reply! Nice AO!

Next week!!!

cannot wait!

W&M will be the last school my D hears from. Universities with 43,000 applications even notified already (although I suspect they just throw the applications up in the air, and the ones that land on the conference table get admitted!). It figures that the school she is most eager to attend will be the last to let her know her fate! Oh, the stress level at our house is growing by the hour – we will be so glad just to finally know, one way or the other!

@teachandmom - I feel your pain, and I am sending good wishes your way to you and your daughter! Hope she joins the tribe!

Thanks 2011VAMom. We are OOS, so my D knows that it is a tough one statistically! She sat in on a class last April and felt so comfortable and immediately like W&M was the place for her. I sat on a bench and just people watched for an hour, and eavesdropped on student conversations to learn about any complaints (not a one), class comparisons, social interactions, etc, and felt the same way. She understood the upper level class content, liked the friendly professor, and just loved her whole visit. It surprised both of us and became her immediate favorite! Oh, and she bought a sweatshirt, which she has worn a lot over the past 11 mons, and is hoping didn’t “jinx” herself!

@teachandmom I completely understand the not “jinxing” yourself with the sweatshirt anecdote. I’ve wanted a particular William and Mary sweatshirt for almost a year now, but refuse to purchase it, lest I have to leave it home when I unfortunately go off to another college. It’s funny how we convince ourselves of these silly little superstitions!

I’ll probably end up buying the sweatshirt in the long run, even if I’m denied. That sounds silly, but I’ll still love W&M, even if I don’t go there. Slews of people adorn Harvard apparel, so why not?

@svcareny, I say if you want it, buy it! What’s the worst that can happen now? You can still wear the sweatshirt on other campuses (as long as it’s not at UVA I suppose!) Good luck to you!

I also say buy it!!

My DD bought one early fall last year when we visited. She is torn between W&M and UVA but, of course, has yet to hear decisions back from either of them yet (although the other school comes out tomorrow at 5 pm!). All others except one have been heard from already. If accepted at both, I hope she picks W&M because I felt the smaller school and whole atmosphere at W&M was a great fit for her quirky personality. That is why I was willing to buy the, hopefully, lucky sweatshirt. She has worn it a lot.

But, if she picks that OTHER school she darn well better wear that $62 sweatshirt anyway! LOL.

Good luck to everyone!

that’s so funny, Z,

My daughter used to play soccer for her high school and thought, for a while, that she wanted to play soccer for UVA (…dream on, right? those girls are pros…). We’d gotten her a UVA soccer t-shirt, years ago when she was 13 or 14, and now she’s outgrown it. She still fits in an old baggy W&M sweatshirt that’s at least 20 years old.

She’s taken that as a metaphor…

We know everyone is anxious for decisions to be released (and from this thread the W&M Bookstore probably is too since so many students are waiting to purchase Tribe paraphenalia )

Please understand our process, which we believe in 1000%, just takes time. We read every application at least twice (so that’s 26,000 reads in 3 months) and sometimes more and we have thoughtful Committee discussions that take weeks so that we can create a great class and so that we give the appropriate amount of time and deliberation to each student.

Decisions will be released next week and as soon as they are we’ll let everyone know.

We thank you for your patience.

W&M Admission, thank you so much for all of your help on CC throughout this entire project and also thank you for the amount of time and care that you put into each application. Hoping it will be good news for me next week and good luck to everyone else! :)

Totally with you on that, Gryphon30. I love how helpful William & Mary has been throughout this whole process, it’s making me love the school more and more! All of the school’s CC posts have been encouraging, and it’s truly helping my stress level. Good luck to everyone next week!

P.S. I’m wearing my WM sweatshirt as I type…it’s a favorite!

We’re happy to help and thrilled that our presence on CC as helped ease the stress of this process for applicants.
