I got a letter in the mail saying I was accepted into the human biology department but it said nothing for jazz studies which I also applied for as a double major. Does anyone know when this news is expected.
How did you indicate double major?
I showed interest in double majoring in music and econ as well, and put music as my first choice and econ as my second; my letter said I got into Thornton and not the other…
If you intend to enroll I suggest checking with Thornton. If you are a performance major there may only be time for a minor. Thornton’s music programs are at the highest level. Here is a helpful number: 213 740 8986 . Site is www.usc.edu/music.
I just put both majors but Biology as primary. I also went to the campus to audition though, so I would think they would give results. +Georgia Girl, I also know how hard Thornton’s music programs are and I have already taken college-level music theory classes at a community college and have been accepted to top conservatories around the nation.
Thanks for the information as well.
Plus I heard USC likes double-majors.
If you apply for 2 majors in 2 different Schools, and if you are “accepted” by each School (independent admissions processes), when your acceptance packet is being prepared by main USC Admissions, they will list only one major–and that is the first one listed on your application. For those who wish to double major, there is a process for adding a second major after you have started at USC. You will need to have at least 1 semester (grades) before you can be admitted to that second major–for some schools like Viterbi, it may be 2 semesters, plus certain courses. And with SCA, you’ll need to fill out the entire SCA application supplement and be reviewed along with the thousand new applicants next year.
Here’s the strange quirk. IF you were actually admitted to both a Thornton major (for example) and a Dornsife major and the Dornsife major was your 1st choice on your app, you’ll probably never know you were admitted to Thornton. It won’t show up on your acceptance letter. In this case (only!!!), you should call Thornton admissions, identify yourself as a newly accepted student and explain the whole deal. If you auditioned for Thornton, you can politely explain you hoped to double major and is it possible you were on their admissions list? This is one of the weird technicalities that is not mentioned anywhere but probably only applies to a handful of applicants. You can ask Thornton about the process to add them as a second major and they can tell you if you have to re-audition or if your first audition was passed (?!?) and what to do next.
Best of luck!
Thank-you so much madbean, that clears things up alot.
