With the difficulty of work study job finding, you’re looking at 8500 in loans this year.

That is what I had.

No worries, tho.

also is it normal for them to ask for tax returns and household info questionnaires? They asked me for both

@tuesdayninja:

The gap that they estimated for you is what they would call estimated expenses like travel and books. If you look at just the cost for room and board, that comes in at around $20,500, which is about what they are giving you. It looks like about $6000 of your package is in loans, but you are lucky in that only $2000 is unsubsidized.

Overall, your package is a good one (though not knowing your EFC I obviously don’t know if it is good for your circumstances or not).

If you do take out all the loans they offered, you will have about $24,000 in debt when you graduate, which, for Michigan, is pretty average.

@flapm_08 - I’d like to know this information too, as I’m not sure why I had to submit all of these extra forms.

I got my award today! I’m in-state and received my decision in 3 days after submitting all forms. My EFC falls right around 4700, but I had a few special circumstances attached. Here’s how it looks:

Michigan Tradition Scholarship: $10,000
Grants: $2372
Work-Study: $2500
Perkins Loan - $500
UnSub Loan- $3500
Sub Loan - $2000
Total Aid - $20872

Approximated Gap - $2778.88

I think that’s pretty good considering my EFC! Still hoping for the MCS too, so hopefully that comes through. I’m going to attend! Paying my enrollment deposit as soon as possible.

This is called verification and it is normal. All schools are required by federal rules to verify at least 30% of the FAFSA applications they receive. Some verify more (my son’s school verifies 100% of their FAFSAs). Most of those selected are selected randomly. Sometimes conflicting information may cause a FAFSA to be selected. It is not a problem. It will probably happen to you more than once. We have been selected for verification 6 out of 7 FAFSAs so far.

“So are the aid notifications final? There are no more scholarships coming?”

So how are you getting the notifications? Online on WA or by mail USPS?

Also, is an “award summary” different from an “award notice”?

any clue when they’ll notify then? the forms have been in for a week now all marked received :)

Has ANYONE heard anything about (merit) scholarships recently?

Are they even giving them out this year?

My son got $15K/year from engineering school on Friday.

Have all the merit scholarships been given already??
