Whens the best time to transfer?

Hey guys I was wondering when the best time was to transfer, especially if you screwed up in high school and are doing alright, so far, in College...

I had about a 3.3 HS gpa before senior year, then i got an F in calc and got a few C's second semester senior year.

In college I have a 3.7 GPA first semester and I'm expecting a better one my second semester.

Do you guys think i should wait till my sophomore year to transfer to another business school,
lets say NYU, Cornell, UVa...I really don't want the admissions team to focus on my HS transcript

I currently attend IUB - Kelley School of Business
I'm a freshmen, and will have 52 semester credits by the end of my freshmen year. 30 semester credits + 8 language placement test credits + 14 AP credits

I'm really contemplating if it is worth applying this year or not.
I am going to give U Mich a shot this year and see how it goes....
but I'd like to have the CC community's feedback before I begin.

You need to wait and apply for junior standing. Your hs stats are weak, but your college stats are good. Youre right to think that they will focus more on your HS stats if you apply for sophomore standing. And for UMich ( I think), if you apply and get rejected you cannot apply for another two years. So you should wait. I don't think you will get in if you apply for soph standing because your HS stats are weak.

I just don't want to take five years to graduate....aghh...

You won't have to. If you spend 2 years at your current institution and 2 ( plus maybe summer sessions) at the institution you transfer into, you will be done in 4 years.

what is your gpa? the last year of your hs record is the most important part of your hs record, i dont know why you left out that part of your gpa?! the F in calc as a business major is going to cripple any chance you had at those schools for soph admissions...put in another year and make sure you dont go below that 3.7 and you might have a shot next year, although stern is next to impossible to get into

I know for UMich they dont allow transfer of Credits from one Business school to another. Well i couldn't find any equivalency form for it when i transfered and my Business school classes didn't go through. I know it is redic to get into the business school too. I thought of applying but i'd rather try for a 3.3-3.5 with econ then get by with a 3.0 in Ross.

I got in as a second semester soph with 3.8 cum gpa and 60 credits. had about a 3.0-3.3 in hs. plus a lot of ec

**hey snowrider...I have a lot of questions for you ...thank god you posted...thank all of you ...U Mich Ross is my TOP choice....so maybe i should wait and do the same thing you did...just a few concerns....

I thought U Mich made you go for 3 years..i didn't know they allowed spring admits...

My High school senior year grades were terrible....I don't even need to say it....i just didn't bother trying, however even though I got D- i still received a 4 on the AP exam...which i got credit for.

Do you think i should go ahead and wait and apply for spring semester? Can you take summer courses and still graduate within normal graduation time?

I have AP credits for Micro, Macro, Statistics, Computer Science, Biology
I will be take Calculus second semester...I'm sure I will do good in it....I really just didn't care in high school, but i know i can do well in it.

I wrote an email to Michigan, please please take a look at it...i know its kind of long and tell me about my situation...I really needed to talk to someone who successfully transferred to Ross...**

I currently hold 14 AP credits (Econ micro/macro, Statistics, Computer Science) and 8 language credits (Chinese) at IUB and by the end of my freshmen year I will have another 30 credits (Total:52 credits). However, I am worried about how my credits will transfer over. I have checked the Michigan website on the LSA bulletin and have found a list of courses that match with U of M.
My concern is the minimum of 27 credits that the Ross school requires as I know that a few courses I have taken or will be taking will not transfer over. While I wish I could take courses that would all transfer to Michigan, it is just not possible. In order to stay on track for business school at Indiana University I must take business prerequisites and classes that will not transfer over to Michigan, my question is, will these courses be subtracted from my total transferable credits of 30? I know for a fact that 8 units of credit will not transfer over, which would bring me down to a mere 22 transferable credits. I am afraid that this setback would bar me from applying to the Ross School of Business at Michigan. (If you include the 9 AP credits then I will be safe, Econ Micro 4/Macro 4 and Statistics 4)

Here is a list of courses I am taking my freshmen year:

First Semester
BUS-A 100 BASIC ACCOUNTING SKILLS-–1 credit (will not transfer)
BUS-X 100 BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION—3credits (will not transfer)
CLLC-Q 199 RESIDENTIAL LEARNING WORKSHOP—1 credit (will not transfer)
CMCL-C 122 INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION—3 credits
MATH-M118 FINITE MATHEMATICS—3 credits
PHIL-P105 THINKING AND REASONING—3 credits

Second Semester
BUS-K 201 THE COMPUTER IN BUSINESS—3 credits (will not transfer)
CMCL-C 121 PUBLIC SPEAKING—3 credits
ENG-W 131 ELEMENTARY COMPOSITION 1—3 credits
GEOL-G 103 EARTH SCIENCE-MATLS/PROCESSES—3 credits
MATH-M 211 CALCULUS I—4credits

Received a total of 8 credit for testing out of Chinese language
EALC-C 101 and EALC-C 102 (4 credits each)

Based on my listed courses and my explanation, am I still eligible to apply for the Business school at U of Michigan? If there are problems, can you please advise me on what do to correct the problem

**
THANKS SO MUCH..**

Also i was wondering if on the "Transfer Equivalency page" it lists my course as equivalent to, lets say, "Math Dep." does that still count as a transferable course? as opposed to a specific number such as "Math 115" (which i will complete, just using it as an example)

And i just read this
Stephen M. Ross School of Business

Preferred admission for freshmen only. Students may apply for fall term only; students admitted to U-M in Spring, Summer or Winter terms will not be considered; application deadline is Friday, January 5. Please note that decisions for the Ross School of Business Preferred Admission Program will be sent via email to the email address provided in your application. Transfer applicants should apply directly to the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

how did you get accepted as a spring admit to the business school?

EDIT: sorry, i just read your post more carefully, you are now an econ major...sorry for the confusion.

oh it's straight don't worry. My parents want me to go business but i think i will do that for grad school if i don't go to Law. Regarding the math, i had that issue - i took a calc course at my former school called calc 176 but it only transfered as a math dept credit - so i get no credit for calc at all. since i didn't want to commit gpa suicide i am taking it over the summer at Grand Valley State near my hometown and a few other courses needed.

I am unsure if there are summer sessions available for business school but i would call them - explain what you would like to do and they tend to be very helpful. I would go call the business school and not UGA. sometimes you can get lucky and directly get a counselor who can guide you in the right direction.
