Where all have you been accepted?

No. But he has been offered partial aid by some colleges. We are down to deciding between Skidmore and Northeastern.

Definitely Skidmore, just my opinion! It’s a small school and your son will get plenty of attention, it has a very good rowing, fencing and equestrian program (that’s a plus if he’s even mildly interested in any one of those). It’s Economics, Finance and Business majors are particularly famous and if he’ll be opting for it, then a good grad school is almost guaranteed on the prestige. Finally, It’s in NY (need I say more?), plenty of time and opportunities for internships and volunteer work.
A good second choice would be Emory (but I don’t know why are you not considering it??)

University of Southern California Class of 2018 !! :slight_smile:
Congratulations @Kandarp :)

Congrats @Kandarp :slight_smile: I too would say Skidmore!
And congrats @Heythere7, USC is a great school :)

@Heythere7 I paid the deposit at USC! Did you submit the housing application? And what is your major?

And yeah! @Kandarp Congrats! And Skidmore is the way to go! And I too am confused about why you dropped Emory!

We dropped Emory as he got admission into Oxford college which is a two year course after which he will need to apply for the business program. Quite incredible coz now we have zeroed in on Skidmore, Brandeis and northeastern

I’ll repeat myself gain, @Kandarp‌

Hey…my son was rejected by the ivys… Waitlisted at UMich and Purdue(we applied late here)… But has been accepted at McGill Canada. He’s also studying for the JEE, BiTS … Good luck to you all!.. :-)

^ Did he apply to all the ivies?

@SuperrMom‌

We actually had the guts to apply to MIT and UPenn :))

We are also waiting to hear from NUS and University of Toronto. But my son seems to be pretty sold on McGill.

UPenn is not so selective, it’s ED acceptance is above 30%, it’s just that it’s not need blind due to which it rejects many Indians and Chinese asking for aid! But MIT’s the bomb, it’s acceptance for intls is .5%. What does he intend to major in?

Chemical engineering @peepingtom‌ . Oh I forgot to include Brown in the ivys. Rejected ofcourse.

Oh! That’s too bad, he should’ve have also applied to need blind ivies HYP and Dartmouth, Dartmouth’s acceptance actually increased this season.
That’s a really good concentration in Engineering. It has the highest starting pay (according to Wall Street Journal, its is aroung $80k). Most students who love Chemistry end up studying Chemical Engineering rather than pure Chemistry. As one of my friend puts it “If you like chemistry you have 3 options
Option #01 : Get a degree in chemistry and spend your life working a job completely unrelated to your field.
Option #02 : Get an even higher degree (with some post doctoral research) and then spend the rest of your life working a job completely unrelated to your field.
Option #03 : Make sure your degree reads ‘Chemical Engineering’”

@peepingtom‌ …where have you been accepted? What is going to be your major? :-)

I’ll be applying for the class of 2019, MIT would be my first choice followed by Dartmouth (Thayer). Looking to double major in one of physics based engineering (Comp, Mech, Aerospace) + Economics or Pure Sciences/Math + Economics. After that, I’ll try for graduate programs in Physics/Applied Maths or Economics. First choice for graduate program would be Harvard GSAS or MIT (again!)
But I think I’ll just let myself loose for the first semester and decide afterwards, I also have a genuine interest in Literature, Classics (Greek, Latin) and Law.

@SuperrMom

Wow! You’ve got it all planned out! Kudos! Good luck to you @peepingtom‌ :-)
