So looks like I and most of us ILR'ies got defered especially those of us from new york (figures with all the budget shrinkage going on, Ive only see a single ny'er get into ilr here). Anyways im starting this thread for some support and for people to post there stats to compare and see. Im just feeling so dejected right now after seeing so many people with sub 2000 sats getting acceptances all over the place. May all of us get in lol.

Status: Defered (%^$#)

ACT: 33
GPA UW: 3.5 (yikes prolly did me in, screw grade deflation at my uber competitive high)
AP's: Euro, US, Gov, Calc BC, Enviromental, English Langauge, English Littrature, French
Half of those are this year the rest were taken soph and junior year. Im advanced a year in math, science, and language also ive taken all honors if AP's werent offered. This year im also taking a macroeconomics class at Pace University (got an A) and on the days I dont have that im interning with the AFl-CIO.

Thought my ILR essay was pretty kickass, guess not :(
Its titled. "From Bugs to Collective Bargaining"

SAT: 2100
ACT: 33
GPA: 3.9
AP's: English Language, English Literature, American, Government, European, and Russian.
Half of those are being taken this year, the other half junior and sophomore year.
All my other classes were honors and I took a million electives.
EC's: I've been involved at the Y for four years, including a bunch of community service projects, teen council, etc.
I've also done Heart Club, which is a group in my school. dedicated to spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS.
I've been involved in the theatre program for four years.
I've played clarinet for nine years and piano for twelve years. I've also been a singer for three years.
I also went on a couple of leadership trips; one to Washington D.C. and one to Israel.
I've worked at a summer camp for three years. I now work with autistic kids and I'm also taking a college class about autism and other learning disabilities. I'm also an art teacher and a drama teacher for six-ten year old kids.
I thought my ILR Essay was really awesome.
My other essay was really good. It was about my activism with animals.

Heyy guys. I was in your position last year. I am from NY and applied ED to ILR. I got deferred and then got offered a Guaranteed transfer. Which turned out to be great! I am doing my first year in a city college ( I am getting a high GPA and at the same time taking classes that will transfer to cornell). Most ED'ers get a Guaranteed transfer offer. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I am here to help!

one right here bro. deferred from CA.
sat: 1360, 2160
act: 32
gpa: 3.65 uw, 4.4 w
7 AP classes & 9 honors classes by end of senior year
AP scores so far: Euro hist (3), U.S. hist (2), envi science (4)

Took 6 courses during the summer at a community college, one B and rest of them all A's.

Like u guys, i thought my essays were kick-ass, but i guess cornell didn't like them =3. either that, or my gpa screwed me over like miktau. (yea, screw grade deflation..)

and thanks for your comments cadabra. i really wish i can at least get guaranteed transfer.

You should try writing ILR a letter in Janruary stating your interest for the school and just giving them a summary of your achievements so far in senior year. Be sure to stress "that cornell is still your number one choice even though you applied to other schools"

miktau-- I am surprised you were deferred w/ your internship and essay making it seem like you are a perfect fit for ILR. (And your ACT is good and gpa isn't that bad) I've always heard, Cornell is all about the fit.

I would think you will eventually be accepted or given a guaranteed transfer. GT seems to be used by Cornell frequently.

My D got into ILR and heard in Feb. because of rolling admission. (She did not apply ED) So maybe you won't have to wait until March or April.

I would say its too soon just because they are taking a break for the holdays and were overwhelmed by all of the ED applcations. 2nd week of Janruary would be perfect. They all come back from vacation and have an open eye once again

I applied to cornell ILR just for the heck of it.
I wasn't expecting to get in.
I was deferred (which really surprised me).

Location: New York

My stats are:

SAT: 1400/2090

GPA: 3.3-3.4
APs/HONORS: NONE? (Didn't have grades to get into any)
SNR COURSE LOAD: Eng, Calc, Govt, Microbiology, Forensic Science.
(Microbiology and Fo. Sci are both college courses (4-6 credits for each course))
ECs: (4 years) Captain of Varisty Swim
JOBS:
1) Constituent complaint taker for my local councilmember. [Solves problems for constituents ie. find housing, write affitdavits, etc]

3) Runs own business (makes 10k+ a year) [creates, markets, sells products]
4) Life guard/volunteer swimming instructor (helped found prominent asian swimming school)

5) CAPC- Chinese American Planning Council [helps Chinese people establish themselves]

At my highschool, 40+ kids applied Cornell ED.
10 already got in (that I know of)

Thanks for the encouragement morismm. I spoke at lenght with my interviewer who graduated from ILR in '62 and has been doing interviews for 30 years (shes also the alum head of westchester). She said she spoke with the ILR dean recently and they are really hurting financially as it is and let go something like 17! people recently. No wonder all of us ny'ers got defered. When i called asking for comments on my file, lauri the administrator basically told me they dont really have comments and they either put you in or defer you . I really hoped that my internship would help. I was just reacently commended at the last delagte meeting for over 6 months and 250 hours of service. My interviewer chalked it up to the "decreased role of unions in the US labor force" (which is true to a certain extent and unions will eventally become extinct in the us) as why cornell apparently didnt take it into account lol. Ughh its gonna be a cold bitter winter doing all the rd apps.

Is it true that it was harder for NY state students to get in this year?
I would imagine that number of applicants from NY increased, but i didn't think ILR had a strict quota.
