I'm really regretting requesting the units for housing

Engineering library is pretty awesome.

Also, if you don’t mind, there are almost always empty classrooms open, at least until 10 PM (and you don’t get kicked out if you get in before then)

Were you wondering about at night, or during the day/afternoon?

At least in the mini-suites, there were little lounges and study rooms on each floor… usually pretty quiet there. Could also just study in your room if you can focus there. I also like working on stuff in Bechtel/Kresge (the engineering library) and Soda (alcoves or second floor labs). For group projects we’ve taken over random Dwinelle rooms before too, but sometimes you get kicked out of those. :P

To study for:

-Classes I Like: At home, on the bus, Anthropology Library
-Classes I Dislike: Music Library computer lab, Wurster lobby

Night and day
But especially night

East asian library is fantastic. And the gardner stacks

Libraries generally suck. There’s a silence policy, which makes all the grunts/coughs/earphone music all the more noticeable, plus you’re not allowed to get a drink.

Cafes > libraries. The Milano is good, so is Mediteraneum and Sack’s. My personal favorite is A Cuppa Tea but it will be too far away for many people.

I second the East Asian Library… but for such a large place, there isn’t much seating… The Music library is also good, but again, small. Most departments also have their own small libraries. I feel as if Doe has some air pressure problem where I can’t study in there for too long without a break.

Cafes like stalker said are also good (I’d add Floor cafe and Musical Offerings to the list). There are quite a few cafes on campus too, Qualcomm, Yali’s in VLSB and Stanley, Common Grounds.

I don’t like libraries or coffee shops because I cannot leave my belongings even for a little while. You’re better off getting a key card access to a building, or get yourself a position in a lab and you have your own study space that you can access 24/7.

Keep in mind that the costs of coffee+ in cafes add up when you study there often.

How do you get key card access

Some classes/majors automatically get keycard access to certain buildings… EECS majors can get into Soda, if you have EE labs you get Cory access, etc. Beyond that, I’m not sure if you can get access without a valid reason.

You don’t need a keycard to enter Cory…

Get yourself enrolled in any CS or EE class and drop it once school starts. You will still have access to Cory and Soda on after-hours.

garfieldliker, the buildings lock around 6 or 7pm, after that you do need keycard access to get in. Of course, if OP is looking for someplace to study at more normal hours none of the keycard stuff is important, but it can be nice after hours to have building access.

Am I the only one here that is aware of how to get into Cory without keycard access?

^Huh? Good for you. I have keycard access to Cory (and many rooms in Cory), Soda, and the BWRC.
